Amravati RTO at a glance

Amravati RTO at a glance

Every vehicle registered in Amravati district carries MH-27, the code of the Regional Transport Office near the Collector Office. The same RTO also heads the Deputy RTO at Yavatmal, which is why MH-29 plates are sometimes taken for Amravati ones.

How to read an Amravati (MH-27) number plate

How to read an Amravati (MH-27) number plate

On a plate such as MH 27 AB 1234, the first pair of letters tells you the car is from Maharashtra and 27 points to the Amravati office. The plate ends with a letter series, AB in this case, then the four-digit number 1234.

Number plate MH 27 AB 1234 labelled: MH is the state code for Maharashtra, 27 is the Amravati RTO code, AB is the series and 1234 is the four-digit number

Worth knowing: Sell your MH-27 car to a buyer in Akola, or take it with you to a new job in Pune, and the code on it does not change, as it changes only if the car is re-registered outside Maharashtra or its registration details are changed.

HSRP number plates in Amravati

HSRP number plates in Amravati

MH-27 cars sold new on or after 1 April 2019 already wear a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), fitted before delivery, and the state transport department does not ask those owners to reapply.

Older Amravati vehicles get theirs through the booking portal named on the Maharashtra transport department website, where the date for MH vehicles is also shown. A fitment centre fits the plate without an extra charge, and home fitting costs more. Our Maharashtra RTO guide has the plate details.

Only one code, MH-27, is used for Amravati. Its neighbours each register under their own code, and one of them, Yavatmal, sends its office reports to Amravati, so both tables are worth a look before you visit.

The department’s list of regional offices places MH-27 near the Collector Office, and its newer address list puts it behind the Collector Office in Camp, with the same pincode. Both point to the Collectorate area, so confirm the exact location with the office.

To confirm the office behind a number you already have, enter it in the finder at the top of this page, say MH27AB1234, and the result shows the registering office.

Worth knowing: Moving house within Amravati, or to any other Maharashtra district, leaves the MH-27 number as it is. The RC simply needs the new address, after which you inform your insurer as well.

Amravati follows the Maharashtra road tax table, so the MH-27 office charges what any office in the state would. It is a one-time tax for a car owned by an individual, worked out from the fuel type and the price.

With the loan closed, upload Form 35 and the bank’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Vahan for a clean RC, at no fee. Our Maharashtra RTO guide lists the papers each step needs.

Arriving from Nagpur, Akola or anywhere else in Maharashtra, you change only the address on the RC and keep the number. Arriving with a car from another state, you have 12 months in Maharashtra before it needs re-registration with an MH number.

Before leaving, the office that first registered the car gives a No Objection Certificate on Form 28

Within the 12 months, apply to the Amravati office for an MH number

  3. 3

If you are leaving Maharashtra, the same steps apply in reverse: MH-27 issues the No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Form 28, free of charge, and the car is registered in the new state.

Worth knowing: Inform your insurer once when the address changes and again when a new number is issued. The documents to carry are listed on our Maharashtra RTO guide.

BH series registration in Amravati

BH series registration in Amravati

Staff who are posted from state to state can ask an Amravati dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number rather than MH-27, so a transfer out of Maharashtra does not mean a fresh registration.

Private sector buyers bring the dealer a Form 60 signed by their employer, who needs offices in 4 or more states or union territories. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.

Eligibility and the BH tax paid every 2 years are set out on our Maharashtra RTO guide.

Car insurance in Amravati

An MH-27 car is priced as Zone B, as insurers take the zone from the office that registered it and the tariff does not list Amravati among the Zone A cities. That usually makes the Own Damage premium lower than for a car registered in Mumbai or Pune. Third-Party cover is charged at the national rate here as everywhere.

  • Zone B premium

    Zone B premium

Zone B applies to every MH-27 registration, so Own Damage cover usually costs less than for a Mumbai or Pune car

  • Fixed Third-Party price

    Fixed Third-Party price

Third-Party premiums are notified by engine size for all of India, so plans differ only on Own Damage and extras

How insurance links to the Amravati RTO

MH-27 registers a new car only after it sees a valid policy. In a sale, the RC is transferred first and the buyer then moves the policy within 14 days. Inform your insurer whenever the RC gets a new address or number, so both documents agree.
