Jalgaon district has three registering offices, not one. MH-19 is the Jalgaon office in Adarsh Nagar, and the district also has two Deputy RTOs, at Chalisgaon (MH-52) and Bhadgaon (MH-54), which serve their own parts of the district rather than Jalgaon city.
Every part of MH 19 AB 1234 carries meaning, starting from the left. MH shows the car is from Maharashtra, 19 says the Jalgaon office registered it, AB is the series of letters, and 1234 is the four-digit number.

Worth knowing: MH 52 on a plate points to Chalisgaon and MH 54 to Bhadgaon, both in Jalgaon district. A Jalgaon car driven to Nagpur for good keeps MH 19, since a Jalgaon plate changes only if the car is re-registered outside Maharashtra or its registration details are changed, and older MH-19 cars from talukas now under Bhadgaon keep their 19 too.
Jalgaon district cars registered from 1 April 2019 were delivered with a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), and the transport department says those owners need not apply again.
Owners of pre-2019 cars use the booking portal named on the Maharashtra transport department website to book the installation. MH-19, MH-52 and MH-54 appear there as separate choices. A fitment centre adds no charge for fitting, but home fitment is extra. More on plates is on our Maharashtra RTO guide.
The three Jalgaon district codes, and the neighbouring codes people confuse with them
Jalgaon district uses three codes. MH-19 is the Jalgaon office, which the transport department’s organisation chart places above two Deputy RTOs, Chalisgaon on MH-52 and Bhadgaon on MH-54.
Some code lists online attach MH-52 and MH-54 to towns far from Jalgaon. The transport department’s own 2026 office list names Chalisgaon for MH-52 and Bhadgaon for MH-54, so trust that over any website table.
The MH-19 office in Jalgaon and the two Deputy RTOs at Chalisgaon and Bhadgaon
Each of the three offices keeps the files for the cars it registered, so the code on your plate tells you where to go. The hours of all three offices could not be confirmed from an official source, so check with your office before you set out.
The MH-19 office is in Adarsh Nagar, near S.P. Chowk. The transport department’s newer lists call it a Regional Transport Office with two Deputy RTOs under it, while one older official page still describes it as a Deputy RTO. It also runs the border check posts at Purnad and Chorwad, on the Madhya Pradesh border.
Chalisgaon is a Deputy RTO under Jalgaon, reported to have been approved in February 2024 and to serve Chalisgaon taluka. Its address comes from the transport department’s 2026 office list.
Bhadgaon is the newest of the three, reported to have begun MH-54 registrations on 22 March 2024 for talukas that used to get MH-19. Published accounts disagree on exactly which talukas moved, so check with the office before you apply.
Worth knowing: A trip to Chalisgaon or Bhadgaon is worth checking in advance in the same way, as their hours are unconfirmed too.

Your office is the one for the address on your Registration Certificate (RC). A Jalgaon city address is MH-19, but the split of the district’s talukas between the three offices has not been set out officially, so treat the rows below as a guide.
Bhusawal does not appear on any official office list, so Bhusawal cars are registered at a Jalgaon district office, which one public list gives as MH-19. The finder at the top of the page tells you, from a registration number, which office holds that car’s file.
Worth knowing: When a taluka moves to a new office, cars already on the road keep their old number, so a car registered as MH-19 before the Bhadgaon office opened still reads MH-19. Moving house in the district? Get the RC address changed, and inform your insurer once it is.
Jalgaon is bordered by Dhule to the west, Buldhana to the east and Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to the south, with Madhya Pradesh beyond its eastern edge. Each of those districts registers cars under its own code, and our Maharashtra RTO guide has the rest.

Maharashtra’s rate, paid once, whether the plate says 19, 52 or 54 Jalgaon pays the Maharashtra road tax rate, once, at first registration. For a car owned by an individual, price and fuel set the rate, and Chalisgaon and Bhadgaon charge exactly what the Jalgaon office does.
Individual owners pay 11% on a car up to ₹10 lakhs, 12% up to ₹20 lakhs, and 13% on anything dearer
Each price slab costs a diesel buyer 2 points more than petrol, from 13% up to ₹10 lakhs to 15% at the top
Gas cars sit lowest on the scale at 8%, 9% and 10%, one point up since the 2025 revision
In rupees, a ₹6 lakh petrol car registered in your name at MH-19 carries ₹66,000 of road tax at 11%, with the road safety cess charged on top.
Electric cars registered in Maharashtra from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2030 pay no road tax, under the state electric vehicle policy of May 2025
Collected once with the tax and reported as 2% of it, so check the amount on Vahan
The highest tax charged on a single car moved from ₹20 lakhs to ₹30 lakhs, a change reported to apply from 1 July 2025
Its age sets the tax on a car brought from another state, so check the amount on Vahan, and the full rate tables on our Maharashtra RTO guide
Whether your file sits at Jalgaon, Chalisgaon or Bhadgaon, the fee for each task is the same national amount. Pay it on the Vahan portal; when you buy new, the dealer pays it and adds it to the on-road price.
For example: Take a car loan, register the car at Adarsh Nagar, and the RTO fees add up to ₹2,300, that is ₹600 for registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 for the loan entry, all before road tax.
Renewing the registration of a 15-year-old MH-19 car costs ₹5,000, and ₹10,000 once it is over 20. For each month you renew late, add ₹500 on a car and ₹300 on a motorcycle.
The plate, the road tax and any state service charge are separate payments.
The dealer files on Vahan, and your taluka decides between MH-19, MH-52 and MH-54
Your dealer registers the new car on Vahan, and the office that approves it depends on where you live. A Bhusawal buyer is normally given an MH-19 number and a Chalisgaon buyer MH-52, even if both bought from the same Jalgaon showroom.
No registration without a policy, and the choice of insurer is yours
The dealer enters your address on Vahan, and it is routed to Jalgaon, Chalisgaon or Bhadgaon
Both are inside the on-road price and itemised on the dealer’s bill
The approving office gives the car an MH-19, MH-52 or MH-54 number
With the High Security Registration Plate fitted, the same office issues the RC
The address on your papers, not the showroom, picks which of the three offices registers the car
Insurance must be in place first, and Jalgaon district cars are priced in Zone B
Two-wheelers follow the same rule at the same three offices
To sell a car registered in Jalgaon district, go to the office whose code is on the RC, or apply on Vahan. The seller gives notice on Form 29, seller and buyer sign Form 30, and the fee is ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.
The buyer must get the policy transferred within 14 days.
Once your bank confirms the loan is closed, upload its No Objection Certificate (NOC) with Form 35 on Vahan. No fee is charged for clearing the loan, and our Maharashtra RTO guide lists the papers for every step.
Jalgaon district owners can begin most applications on the Vahan portal for vehicles or the Sarathi portal for licences, and each one is sent to the office for the RC address. No trip is needed for the learner licence test either, since Maharashtra holds it online with Aadhaar authentication.
For a duplicate RC, file Form 26 with the office that registered the car, Jalgaon, Chalisgaon or Bhadgaon, and pay the fee in the fees table. The Kiwi Insurance RC status check looks up any MH number.
Licence requests start on Sarathi, and the driving test is taken in person at the office for your address. For the remaining services, turn to our Maharashtra RTO guide.
Whether the plate says MH-19, MH-52 or MH-54, look the number up on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in mParivahan to see and settle a challan, which shows the sum for each offence.
Fines for anything else are on our Maharashtra RTO guide.
What changes depends on the state shown on your plate
Arriving in Jalgaon with an MH car, say from Pune or Nashik? You only change the address. With a car from Madhya Pradesh or any other state, it needs a Jalgaon district number once it has been kept in Maharashtra for more than 12 months.
The RTO that registered the car issues a No Objection Certificate on Form 28
After 12 months in Maharashtra, apply at Jalgaon, Chalisgaon or Bhadgaon, by your address
Maharashtra charges by the car’s age, and Vahan shows the sum
Expect ₹600 per car, or ₹300 per motorcycle, for the new registration mark
If you are leaving Maharashtra with a Jalgaon district car, the same steps apply in reverse: The office whose code is on your RC issues the No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Form 28 free of charge, and the car is then registered in the new state.
Worth knowing: Inform your insurer whenever the number or address on the RC changes. Our Maharashtra RTO guide lists each form you may need for the move.
If your employer could post you outside Maharashtra, a Bharat series (BH) number from the Jalgaon dealer saves the paperwork later. A move to Bhopal or Bengaluru then needs no No Objection Certificate (NOC) and no new registration.
Working in the private sector, you give the dealer Form 60, which your employer signs; it needs offices in 4 or more states or union territories. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
Our Maharashtra RTO guide gives the eligibility rules and the BH tax.
Official PDFs for common tasks at the Jalgaon, Chalisgaon and Bhadgaon offices
Online filing on the Vahan portal or the Sarathi portal covers most of these. Keep a printed copy only for an office that still wants paper, and take it to the office named on your RC.

Part of your premium is set by the zone of the office that registered the car. All of Jalgaon district is Zone B for Own Damage, so an MH-19, MH-52 or MH-54 car is rated below Zone A cities such as Mumbai and Pune. Third-Party premiums are notified for all of India.
Jalgaon is in Zone B for Own Damage, as are Chalisgaon and Bhadgaon; Mumbai and Pune are the Zone A cities in Maharashtra
Moving a file between MH-19, MH-52 and MH-54 never changes the zone, which stays B
Third-Party is notified by engine size, so compare Own Damage and optional covers instead
Transfer the RC at the office on it, then switch the policy into the buyer’s name within 14 days
Before any of the three offices registers a new car, it checks for a valid policy. On a sale, the RC is transferred first, then the policy within 14 days. Re-registered, or given a new number? Inform your insurer so the policy and the RC match.
Worth knowing: The zone comes from the registering office, so a Jalgaon car stays Zone B even if you move with it to Mumbai.
All three Jalgaon district offices need proof of Third-Party cover, the minimum the law asks of every vehicle in India Done with the RTO? Buy a policy that is in your own name; the car and bike cards below show the Kiwi Insurance plans.
