Hyderabad runs on several codes at once. Five zone offices inside the city hold TG-09 to TG-13, and the suburbs are served by offices in Rangareddy and Medchal districts, with TG-07 and TG-08 listed for them in directories. Begin with the address printed on your Registration Certificate (RC).
Split a Hyderabad plate such as TG 09 AB 1234 into four parts. TG stands for Telangana and 09 for the Central Zone office, better known as Khairatabad RTO, while AB is the letter series and 1234 is the four-digit number.

Worth knowing: A car registered with the older TS letters reads TS 09 instead, and the 09 still means the Central Zone office. When a TG-09 car moves from Ameerpet to Uppal with its owner, its code stays the same, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Telangana or its registration details are changed.
Check the registration date on the RC first. A Hyderabad car bought new from 1 April 2019 came with its High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) fitted by the maker and dealer, while an older car needs one installed.
Book that installation through the booking portal named on the Telangana transport department website, which also shows the date for your vehicle. A car already on a TS number keeps it, as existing TS plates were reported to stay valid, and only new registrations get TG. Our Telangana RTO guide has the rest of the plate rules.
The five zone codes, the codes listed for the suburban offices, and three district codes people confuse
Within Hyderabad district, each of the five zone offices has a code of its own, TG-09 to TG-13. The suburbs beyond them lie in Rangareddy and Medchal districts, and directories show each of those districts using one code across three offices.
Each TG code took over the TS code with the same number under central notification S.O. 1306(E) of 12 March 2024, so TS-13 and TG-13 both mean the Tolichowki office.
One code list from 2014 also gave Hyderabad TS-14, but no office in the department’s current directory carries that number, so treat a TS-14 listing as unconfirmed.
Official name, address, pincode and area list for the five zones, six suburban offices and the test track
The addresses and area lists below are the ones in the Telangana Transport Department’s Citizens’ Charter. The charter gives every registering office the same hours, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, with applications taken until 2:00 pm, so plan to hand in papers early in the day.
The office known as Khairatabad RTO stands at Somajiguda, opposite the Eenadu office, rather than in Khairatabad itself. The Transport Department’s head office, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Transport Bhavan in Khairatabad, is a separate address, so check which one you need before you set off.
Hyderabad North RTO and Secunderabad RTO are one and the same, opposite the Hanuman Temple at Tirumalagherry. It holds TG-10, which older cars show as TS-10, and its list runs across the Secunderabad side of the city, the Cantonment area included.
The East Zone office is on Moosarambagh Road in Prashanth Nagar Colony, and it registers cars from Dilsukhnagar, Saidabad and the streets around Malakpet under TG-11.
Hyderabad South RTO is the Bandlaguda office at Chandrayangutta, and it holds TG-12. People who search for Bahadurpura RTO or Kishanbagh RTO end up here as well. The department lists no office in either place, and both areas are on this zone’s list.
The West Zone office is in Salarjung Colony, Tolichowki, under TG-13. There is no separate Mehdipatnam RTO, as Mehdipatnam is the first name on this office’s area list, ahead of Golconda, Langar Houz and Masab Tank.
Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur and Shamshabad are not in Hyderabad district. They are on the list of the District Transport Office (DTO) Rangareddy at Upparpally, which many people search for as Attapur RTO. Directories show that office, the Ibrahimpatnam office and the Shadnagar unit office sharing TG-07, while the department’s directory names the offices without their codes.
Quthbullapur, Alwal, Uppal and Kukatpally belong to Medchal district and its three offices. The office known as Medchal RTO is at Jeedimetla, not in Medchal town, and directories list all three under TG-08.
Driving tests in Hyderabad are held at the Nagole Driving Test Track, which the department’s directory places under an officer of RTO rank. It registers no vehicles and has no code, and its address and hours could not be confirmed from an official source, so check with the track before you go.
Worth knowing: Before you travel, match the two digits after TG or TS on your RC to an office above. If they read 07 or 08, look at the area lists too, as directories show three offices sharing each of those codes.

Look for your area in the two tables to find the office for your car. The address on the RC decides it, and many suburbs that people think of as Hyderabad belong to a Rangareddy or Medchal office rather than a city zone.
Worth knowing: Mehdipatnam and Attapur are neighbouring areas but answer to different offices. Mehdipatnam is on the TG-13 list at Tolichowki, while the Upparpally office near Attapur is the Rangareddy DTO.
Not sure which office registered your car? Type its number into the finder at the top of this page to see the office behind the code.
A move inside Telangana, from Kukatpally to Dilsukhnagar for instance, means a new address on the RC and then a word to inform your insurer, while the number on the car stays the same.
Hyderabad district borders only Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri, and both districts run offices of their own for the suburbs around the city. Directories list TG-07 for the Rangareddy offices and TG-08 for the Medchal offices.

Telangana life tax, paid once and charged the same at every Hyderabad office
A Hyderabad car pays Telangana life tax once, at its first registration, and Somajiguda charges the same rate as Uppal. The price of the car and who owns it decide the rate, from 13% to 21% for a car owned by an individual and from 15% to 25% for a company car or a second car.
On top of the tax, a new car registered from 1 March 2026 pays a one-time road safety cess of ₹5,000. A new scooter or motorcycle pays 9% to 18% of its price under the same order.
The order charges the higher rates on second or more personalised vehicles. A change was reported in February 2026, but no order was found, so check before you pay
An electric car registered in Telangana until 31 December 2026 pays no road tax and no registration fee, under G.O.Ms.No.41 of 16 November 2024
A car re-registered here from another state pays less as it ages. Under ₹5 lakhs, that is 12% at up to 2 years old, falling to 6.5% after 12 years
Look up your exact amount on Vahan before paying it. Every schedule, two-wheelers included, is on our Telangana RTO guide
These RTO fees are national amounts, so a Hyderabad owner pays at Tolichowki exactly what a Sangareddy owner pays at the TG-15 office. Pay them on the Vahan portal, or let the dealer pay them inside the on-road price of a new car.
For example: A new car bought on a loan and registered at the West Zone office in Tolichowki runs up ₹2,300 in RTO fees before any life tax. That is ₹600 for the registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 to record the loan.
Keep a Hyderabad car past its 15th year and renewing it costs ₹5,000, or ₹10,000 once it passes 20 years. Leave the renewal overdue and the office adds ₹500 a month for a car, or ₹300 a month for a motorcycle.
Life tax, the road safety cess, the HSRP and any other state service charge are paid on top, as none of them is an RTO fee.
Your showroom starts the work on Vahan, and your address settles which office approves it
The paperwork for a new Hyderabad car starts at the showroom. Telangana dealers have issued the temporary registration on Vahan since 23 March 2026, and the office for your home address approves the permanent number, so an Ameerpet buyer gets TG-09 and a Secunderabad buyer TG-10, whichever showroom made the sale.
Buy the policy before delivery. You choose the insurer, and the dealer needs a valid policy to register the car
The dealer enters the car on Vahan and issues a temporary registration, valid for up to one month
The permanent application is due within 7 days of delivery, with Form 20, Form 21 and Form 22
Life tax, the ₹5,000 road safety cess and the ₹600 fee are collected in the on-road price
The office for your address allots the TG number, the HSRP is fitted, and the smart card RC follows
A January 2026 order, as reported, lets authorised dealers register new private cars and bikes without a visit to the RTO
The smart card RC is reported to reach your home by speed post, so give the dealer an address you can receive post at
Hyderabad is Zone A, so the Own Damage part of the policy you show at registration costs more than in Warangal
A used Hyderabad car is transferred by the office whose code is on its RC, so a TS-11 car goes to Malakpet. Telangana moved registration work to Vahan in March 2026, so start there. Form 29 comes from the seller and Form 30 carries both signatures, with a fee of ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.
From the date of the transfer, the buyer has 14 days to move the policy across.
With the loan repaid, send the lender’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Form 35 to the office on the RC. The central rules charge no fee for this, though a state service charge may apply. Our Telangana RTO guide lists what to bring for each step.
Telangana moved vehicle registration to the Vahan portal on 23 March 2026, and its licence services run on the Sarathi portal, so most Hyderabad RTO tasks now begin online. The office on your RC deals with anything that still needs a visit.
A lost or damaged RC is replaced by the office that issued it, such as Bandlaguda for a TG-12 car. Apply there on Form 26 and pay the fee shown in the fees table. Look up any TG or TS number with the Kiwi Insurance RC status check.
Apply for a learner’s or driving licence on Sarathi, then take the test at the Nagole track. The department’s own portal still runs the tax validity and vehicle searches, and our Telangana RTO guide lists the rest.
To see or pay a challan on a Hyderabad car, enter its TG or TS number on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in mParivahan. The amount due is printed on each challan.
Our Telangana RTO guide has the longer list of fines.
What you do depends on the state code on the plate today
A car from Warangal or Karimnagar keeps its TG or TS number in Hyderabad, and only the address on the RC changes. Bring one from another state, and it needs a TG number after more than 12 months in Telangana.
Request the No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Form 28 from the RTO where the car is registered now
After 12 months in Telangana, take the application to the office for your Hyderabad address
The tax is worked out on the car’s cost, at the lower rate the order sets for its age
Put the new TG number on the car once the office allots it, then update the policy
A car registered and taxed in another state that comes into Telangana only for a while, and is not re-registered here, cannot be made to pay Telangana life tax, the High Court held in December 2024.
If you are leaving Telangana with a Hyderabad car, the steps run the other way. The office on your RC issues the NOC on Form 28, applied for online with a slot booking, and asks for the RC, the policy, proof that tax is paid, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and a police verification certificate.
Worth knowing: The day the number or the address changes, inform your insurer. Our Telangana RTO guide covers the forms in full.
If your job may take you out of Telangana, ask the Hyderabad dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number instead of a TG number. A posting from Gachibowli to Pune then needs neither a No Objection Certificate (NOC) nor a fresh registration.
In the private sector, an employer with offices in 4 or more states or union territories signs Form 60 for the dealer. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
Who qualifies, and how BH tax compares with life tax, is on our Telangana RTO guide.

The office that registered the car sets the zone for the Own Damage part of the premium. Hyderabad is the only Zone A city in Telangana, so a car from one of the five zone offices usually costs more to insure for Own Damage than one from Warangal, while the Third-Party price is one national rate.
Zone A for Own Damage covers cars registered at the five Hyderabad zone offices, so the rate is higher than in Karimnagar or Khammam
The zone follows where the registering office is, so for a car from a Rangareddy or Medchal office, check the zone on your quote
The Third-Party premium is fixed for all of India by engine size, so compare Hyderabad plans on Own Damage and optional covers
A TS number on your policy matches the TS plate on the car, so nothing needs changing until the RC itself changes
Look up the cashless partner garages near your home and your office in Hyderabad before you pick a plan
Change the RC at the office that registered the car first, and ask the insurer to move the policy within 14 days of the sale
The dealer needs to see a valid policy before the Hyderabad office registers a new car. After a sale, the RC changes first and the policy within 14 days. After a re-registration or a house move, inform your insurer so the policy carries the number and address on the RC.
Worth knowing: A car registered at a Zone B office such as Karimnagar stays in Zone B after a move to Hyderabad, as its registering office does not change. Even so, inform your insurer of the move.
A Hyderabad office registers no car without at least Third-Party cover, which the law requires for every vehicle on Indian roads Once the RTO work for your TG car is done, make sure the policy is in your name. Follow the cards below to Kiwi Insurance car plans and bike plans.
