Karimnagar has one code, TG-02, but two transport offices. The District Transport Office (DTO) beside Thimmapur Police Station registers most of the district, and a smaller unit office at Huzurabad, run by a Motor Vehicle Inspector, handles the Huzurabad side.
Read a Karimnagar plate such as TG 02 AB 1234 from the left, where TG is for Telangana and 02 for the Karimnagar office, then AB for the letter series and 1234 for the four-digit number.

Worth knowing: Cars registered at Karimnagar before October 2016 in towns such as Jagityal, Peddapally and Sircilla are reported to keep their TS 02 numbers, even though those towns now have codes of their own. A TG-02 car that later moves with its owner from Choppadandi to a flat in Hyderabad, or to any other Telangana town, still shows 02, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Telangana or its registration details are changed. News reports also say a TS-02 plate stays valid, as only new registrations take TG.
Look at the registration date on your Registration Certificate (RC) before you book anything. A car first registered at Karimnagar from 1 April 2019 left the showroom with its High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) already fitted, so only older cars need one installed.
For that installation, use the booking portal named on the Telangana transport department website, where the date for your vehicle is also given, and our Telangana RTO guide covers the remaining plate rules.
Karimnagar district registers under one code, TG-02. The department’s office directory names its two offices without printing codes, and directories and the code list in our Telangana RTO guide give TG-02 to Karimnagar.
The bigger change came on 11 October 2016, when the old Karimnagar district was split. Jagityal, Peddapally and Rajanna Siricilla became districts with codes of their own, and a few mandals joined Siddipet, Hanumakonda and Jayashankar Bhupalpally, so many towns that people still call Karimnagar now use another code.
An old AP-15 plate is also a Karimnagar car, registered before Telangana was formed in June 2014. Do not mix it up with AP-02, which belonged to Anantapur.
Address, pincode, hours and area list for the district office and the Huzurabad unit office
Two offices serve Karimnagar district, and neither is in the middle of Karimnagar town. The addresses and area lists below come from the Transport Department’s Citizens’ Charter, which gives both offices the same hours, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, with applications accepted until 2:00 pm.
The district office is beside Thimmapur Police Station at Thimmapur, which is why people looking for it in town end up asking for directions. Its charter name is RTA Karimnagar, and it handles registration, licences and tax for most mandals of the district.
Huzurabad has the district’s second transport office, a unit office in the K.C. Camp quarters run by a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI). It works under DTO Karimnagar, and no code lists show a separate number for it, so the RC of a car it handles is expected to read TG-02.
Book a learner’s or driving test slot on Sarathi before you go. News reports from the end of September 2026 said the test track at the Karimnagar RTO is the only one outside the Hyderabad area in the first phase of a Transport Department plan to check driving tests with AI video cameras, with no start date given.

Find your mandal below. The address on your RC, not the town people call it by, decides whether a car belongs to Thimmapur, to Huzurabad or to a neighbouring district office.
Worth knowing: Ramagundam has a unit office of its own, under DTO Peddapally, so a new car from Godavarikhani is given TG-22 and does not need the trip to Thimmapur.
Unsure which office issued your number? Enter it in the finder at the top of this page.
A move inside Telangana, say from Jammikunta to Karimnagar town, only changes the address on the RC, and you then inform your insurer. The number on the car stays as it is.
Karimnagar’s neighbouring districts include Jagityal, Peddapally and Rajanna Siricilla, the three carved out of it in 2016, along with Siddipet and Hanumakonda, which took some of its mandals. Each of them registers vehicles at its own district office.

Telangana life tax, paid once, at the same rate in Thimmapur and Huzurabad
Road tax in Karimnagar is Telangana life tax, paid once when the car is first registered, and Thimmapur and Huzurabad charge it at the same rate. For a car owned by an individual the rate runs from 13% to 21% of the price, and a company car or a second car pays more.
Every new car registered from 1 March 2026 also carries a one-time road safety cess of ₹5,000, so the ₹6 lakh car in the table pays ₹89,000 in all. Two-wheelers pay between 9% and 18% under the same order.
The higher column applies to second or more personalised vehicles. News in February 2026 spoke of dropping it, so check the amount on Vahan before paying
G.O.Ms.No.41 of 16 November 2024 waives road tax and the registration fee on an electric car registered in Telangana until 31 December 2026
A ₹5 to ₹10 lakh car re-registered here pays 13% when up to 2 years old, and 7.5% once it is more than 12 years old
Every band, two-wheelers included, is in our Telangana RTO guide, and Vahan shows the exact amount before you pay
Registration fees are set by the central rules, so the Huzurabad unit office charges exactly what an office in Jagityal or Hyderabad does. You pay them on the Vahan portal. A Karimnagar dealer selling a new car adds these fees to the on-road price.
An electric or other battery-operated vehicle pays no RC fee at all.
For example: Buy a new car on a loan and have it registered at Thimmapur, and the RTO part of the bill is ₹2,300 before life tax, made up of ₹600 to register, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 to note the loan.
A Karimnagar car that has passed 15 years costs ₹5,000 to renew, and ₹10,000 after 20 years. If the renewal is late, a car is charged ₹500 for every month and a motorcycle ₹300.
None of these covers life tax, the road safety cess, the HSRP or other state service charges, which are paid separately.
The dealer starts it on Vahan, and your address picks the Karimnagar office
Most of the work for a new Karimnagar car happens at the showroom. Since 23 March 2026 Telangana dealers have issued the temporary registration on Vahan, and the office for the buyer’s address gives the permanent number, so a Huzurabad buyer is still a TG-02 car even if the showroom is in Hyderabad.
Choose your insurer before delivery, as the dealer cannot register the car without a valid policy
The dealer enters the car on Vahan and gives a temporary registration that lasts up to one month
The permanent application goes in within 7 days of delivery, on Form 20 with Form 21 and Form 22
The on-road price already holds the life tax, the ₹5,000 road safety cess and the ₹600 fee
The Karimnagar office for your address allots the number, the HSRP goes on and the smart card RC follows
Under a January 2026 order, as reported, authorised dealers register new private cars and bikes without a trip to Thimmapur
News reports say the smart card RC now comes by speed post, so give the dealer a postal address you use
Karimnagar is in Zone B, so the Own Damage premium on the policy you show is lower than for a Hyderabad car
Ownership of a used car changes at the office that registered it, so a TS-02 car bought in Sircilla is still transferred by Karimnagar. Start the application on Vahan. Form 29 is the seller’s notice and Form 30 carries both signatures, and Karimnagar charges the national fee of ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.
The policy follows the car, and the buyer has 14 days from the date of transfer to get it moved.
Once the loan is paid off, the bank’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Form 35 go to the office on the RC. The central rules charge nothing for this, though a state service charge may be added, and the papers to bring are in our Telangana RTO guide.
Registration work for Karimnagar cars moved to the Vahan portal on 23 March 2026, and licences are applied for on the Sarathi portal. The Thimmapur or Huzurabad office then deals with anything that still needs a visit.
If an RC is lost or damaged, the office that issued it makes the duplicate, which for an AP-15 or TS-02 car is still Karimnagar. Apply on Form 26 and see the fees table for the cost. To look up a number, use the Kiwi Insurance RC status check.
A learner’s licence, a driving licence and a test slot are all booked on Sarathi. Tax validity and vehicle searches still run on the department’s own portal, and our Telangana RTO guide has the rest.
Pending challans on a TG-02 or TS-02 car can be checked and paid on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in the mParivahan app, and each challan shows what is owed.
The rest of the offences, each with its section, are in our Telangana RTO guide.
The state code on your plate decides what has to change
A car that comes to Karimnagar from Hyderabad or Warangal keeps its TG or TS number, and only the RC address is updated. Bring one in from another state and keep it in Telangana for more than 12 months, and it has to be re-registered with a TG-02 number.
Ask the RTO where the car is registered for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Form 28
After 12 months in Telangana, apply to the Thimmapur or Huzurabad office for your address
Life tax is charged once on the cost, at the lower rate for the car’s age
Fit the TG-02 plate once it is allotted, then update the policy
Leaving Telangana with a Karimnagar car works the same way in reverse. Apply online, with a slot booking, for the NOC on Form 28 from the office on your RC, and take the RC, the policy, proof of tax paid, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and a police verification certificate.
Worth knowing: The day a Karimnagar car gets a new number or a new address is the day to inform your insurer, and our Telangana RTO guide walks through each form.
A Karimnagar buyer whose job moves between states can ask the dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number in place of TG-02. A transfer from Karimnagar to Nagpur would then need no No Objection Certificate (NOC) and no new registration.
For someone in a private job, the employer signs Form 60, and it must have offices in at least 4 states or union territories. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
Eligibility and the BH tax are explained in our Telangana RTO guide.

Karimnagar RTO work now starts on the Vahan portal or the Sarathi portal, so a printed form is needed only if the office asks you for paper.

For a Karimnagar car, the Own Damage premium depends on which motor tariff zone its registering office falls in. Karimnagar is in Zone B, so a TG-02 car usually costs less to insure for Own Damage than the same car registered in Hyderabad, while Third-Party cover costs the same everywhere in India.
Zone B applies to cars from both Karimnagar offices, so the Own Damage rate is lower than for a Hyderabad-registered car
A TS-02 car now kept in Peddapally or Jagityal is still rated on its Karimnagar registration, so the zone stays B
One national Third-Party price applies by engine size, so Karimnagar plans really differ on Own Damage and optional covers
If the policy shows the old AP or TS number on your RC, it is correct until the RC itself changes
Check the cashless partner garages around Karimnagar town and Huzurabad before you pick a plan
Have the RC changed at the Karimnagar office first, then ask the insurer to move the policy within 14 days
No Karimnagar office registers a new car until the dealer has seen a valid policy. After a sale, the RC is changed first and the policy within 14 days, and after a re-registration or a change of address, inform your insurer so the policy matches the RC.
Worth knowing: Taking a TG-02 car to Hyderabad does not move it into Zone A, as the zone follows the office that registered it. A new home address still has to go on the policy, so inform your insurer when you move.
Neither Karimnagar office registers a car without at least Third-Party cover, which the law requires on every road in India With the RTO side of your TG-02 car settled, check that the policy is in your own name. To compare Kiwi Insurance car and bike plans, open either of the two cards below.

Karimnagar uses TG-02. Cars registered there before March 2024 show TS-02, and those from before June 2014 show AP-15. No separate code is listed for the Huzurabad unit office, which works under the Thimmapur office.
