Khammam RTO at a glance

Khammam district has three transport offices and one code. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office near the Bypass Road in Khammam town, which the department lists as its District Transport Office (DTO), is joined by unit offices at Sattupalli and Wyra, and all of them work under TG-04.

How to read a Khammam (TG) number plate

How to read a Khammam (TG) number plate

Break TG 04 AB 1234 into its four pieces to read a Khammam plate. The first two letters stand for Telangana, 04 identifies the Khammam district offices, AB is the series, and 1234 at the end is the four-digit number.

Number plate TG 04 AB 1234 labelled: TG is the state code for Telangana, 04 is the Khammam RTO code, AB is the series and 1234 is the four-digit number

Worth knowing: A car registered at Wyra or Sattupalli carries the same 04 as one from Khammam town, as the unit offices have no number of their own on the code lists. Drive a TG-04 car to a new home in Kothagudem and it still shows 04, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Telangana or its registration details are changed. Older TS-04 plates are reported to remain valid, with TG used only for new registrations.

HSRP number plates in Khammam

HSRP number plates in Khammam

Whether your Khammam car needs a new plate depends on when it was first registered. Cars sold new from 1 April 2019 already have a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) fitted by the maker and dealer, and older ones need it installed.

The Telangana transport department website names the booking portal for that installation and shows the date that applies to you, and our Telangana RTO guide has the other plate rules.

Khammam RTO code list

Khammam RTO code list

Every new registration in Khammam district today is given TG-04. Directories and the code list in our Telangana RTO guide give it to Khammam, while the department’s own directory lists the RTA and the two unit offices by name, with no code beside them.

What confuses owners is the 2016 reorganisation. On 11 October 2016 the towns from Kothagudem and Palvancha to Bhadrachalam became Bhadradri Kothagudem district with TG-28, and the Bayyaram and Garla mandals went to Mahabubabad, which uses TG-26.

Registering a new car in Khammam

Started at the dealer on Vahan, finished by the office for your mandal

A new Khammam car is registered from the showroom. Telangana dealers have issued temporary registrations on Vahan since 23 March 2026, and the permanent TG-04 number comes from the office covering the buyer’s mandal, whether that is the RTA, Sattupalli or Wyra.

Transferring car ownership in Khammam

Sell or buy a used TG-04 car and the transfer is made by the Khammam office that registered it, which for an old TS-04 car from Palvancha is still Khammam. The application starts on Vahan with Form 29 from the seller and Form 30 signed by both sides, for ₹300 on a car or ₹150 on a motorcycle.

Insurance has to catch up within 14 days, when the buyer has the policy moved into their name.

Removing a loan (hypothecation) from a Khammam RC

After the last loan instalment, take the lender’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Form 35 to the office on your RC. There is no central fee, a state service charge may apply, and the full document list is in our Telangana RTO guide.

A Telangana High Court judgment of December 2024 held that a car registered and taxed in another state, which is in Telangana only for a while and is not re-registered, cannot be charged Telangana life tax.

Leaving Telangana with a TG-04 car reverses the steps. Book a slot and apply online for the NOC on Form 28 from the office on the RC, with the RC, the policy, tax receipts, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and a police verification certificate.

Worth knowing: Inform your insurer the same day your car gets a new number or address, and use our Telangana RTO guide for the complete form list.

BH series registration in Khammam

BH series registration in Khammam

Owners who may be posted outside Telangana can ask the Khammam dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number instead of TG-04. When the job moves, from Khammam to Vijayawada for instance, the car needs no No Objection Certificate (NOC) and no re-registration.

If you work in the private sector, your employer must have offices in 4 or more states or union territories and give you Form 60. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.

See our Telangana RTO guide for who qualifies and how the BH tax is charged.

How insurance links to the Khammam RTO

The dealer must show a valid policy before any Khammam office registers a new car. When a car is sold, the RC changes first and the policy within 14 days, and when the number or address changes, inform your insurer so both documents match.

Worth knowing: The zone does not change when a Khammam owner moves, so a TG-04 car stays Zone B even in Hyderabad. The new address still goes on the policy, so inform your insurer.
