One city across two districts, with TG-24 for Warangal and TG-03 for Hanumakonda, which was Warangal Urban until a renaming reported in August 2021 split the two areas.

Warangal is one city with two RTO codes. TG-24 belongs to the District Transport Office (DTO) Warangal, and TG-03 to DTO Hanumakonda, so the district printed in your address, not the city name, tells you which office and code are yours.
Take TG 24 AB 1234, a typical number from the Warangal office, and read it in four parts. TG means Telangana, 24 is DTO Warangal, AB is the series of letters, and 1234 is the four-digit number, while a Hanumakonda car shows 03 in the same place.

Worth knowing: When a TG-03 owner from Kazipet moves house to Narsampet, in the other district, the car keeps its 03, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Telangana or its registration details are changed. Two neighbours on one Warangal street can therefore carry different codes, and news reports say older TS-24 and TS-03 plates stay valid, as only new registrations get TG.
A TG-24 or TG-03 car first registered on or after 1 April 2019 was given its High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) by the maker and dealer at the time of sale. If yours is older, it needs one installed.
Book it on the booking portal that the Telangana transport department website names, which also gives the date for your vehicle, and our Telangana RTO guide has the remaining rules.
Two codes cover the Warangal city area today, TG-24 for Warangal district and TG-03 for Hanumakonda district. The department’s directory lists DTO Warangal and DTO Hanumakonda by name, and directories and the code list in our Telangana RTO guide give TG-24 to the first and TG-03 to the second.
The two codes have swapped names once already. When the old Warangal district was split on 11 October 2016, Warangal Urban kept 03 and Warangal Rural was given 24. In August 2021, as reported, Warangal Urban was renamed Hanumakonda and Warangal Rural became Warangal, with the Warangal and Khila Warangal mandals moving into it.
Before June 2014 the whole district used AP-36. An old AP-24 plate is from Nalgonda and AP-03 from Chittoor, so neither is a Warangal or Hanumakonda car.
Worth knowing: Several directories still label TS-03 as Warangal. That was true before 2016, when TS-03 served the whole undivided district, and older cars from Jangaon or Mahabubabad are reported to keep their TS-03 numbers, but a new TG-03 number now means Hanumakonda.
DTO Warangal and DTO Hanumakonda, with the address, hours and mandals of each
In the 2017 Citizens’ Charter, the Warangal Rural and Warangal Urban offices stood in one RTA complex at the Timmapur (Sivar) T-junction in Rangasaipet. Both are now separate DTOs under the new district names, and the charter gives every office the same hours, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, with applications received until 2:00 pm.
DTO Warangal is the office that people searching for Warangal RTO usually need, and it registers cars under TG-24. The charter lists it as RTA Warangal (Rural) at the Khammam Road T-junction, and directories show the same address for TG-24 today, although no official source confirms it after the reported 2021 renaming.
Hanamkonda, Kazipet and the other Hanumakonda mandals register with DTO Hanumakonda under TG-03, and the department’s directory shows a Deputy Transport Commissioner in charge. Its current address could not be confirmed. The 2017 charter placed the office, then Warangal Urban, at the Kamalapur Road T-junction in the same Rangasaipet complex, while one directory now lists it in Hanamkonda (506015), so check before you travel.

Since the city runs across two districts, look up your mandal rather than your locality’s name. Mandals in Warangal district go to DTO Warangal under TG-24, and those in Hanumakonda district to DTO Hanumakonda under TG-03.
Worth knowing: Kazipet and the Fort area are both part of the city that people call Warangal, but Kazipet is a TG-03 mandal and Khila Warangal a TG-24 one, so the two register at different offices.
Not sure whether your number came from Warangal or Hanumakonda? The finder at the top of this page reads the code for you.
Moving across the district line, from Hanamkonda to Narsampet for example, means a new address on the RC, after which you inform your insurer. The car keeps the code it already has.
Four of the districts around Warangal and Hanumakonda were carved out of the old Warangal district in 2016 or later, and each now has its own office and code. Karimnagar, which gave Hanumakonda three mandals in 2016, is a neighbouring district too.

The same Telangana life tax for TG-24 and TG-03, paid once
Warangal and Hanumakonda charge the same Telangana life tax, collected once at registration, so the code you end up with makes no difference to the tax. A car owned by an individual pays 13% to 21% of its price, and a company car or a second personal car pays the higher rates beside them.
The one-time ₹5,000 road safety cess, charged on new cars from 1 March 2026, lifts the individual’s total for that SUV to ₹2,21,000. Scooters and motorcycles have their own scale in G.O.Ms.No.53, from 9% to 18% of the price.
A second personal car is charged the company column, and a February 2026 news report spoke of a change, so check the amount on Vahan
Under G.O.Ms.No.41 of 16 November 2024, electric cars registered in Telangana until 31 December 2026 pay neither road tax nor the registration fee
Bring a ₹20 to ₹50 lakh car from another state and it pays 19% if up to 2 years old, falling to 13.5% beyond 12 years
Vahan shows the amount for your car, and our Telangana RTO guide lists every schedule
Registration fees are fixed nationally, so DTO Warangal and DTO Hanumakonda charge identical amounts. You pay on the Vahan portal, or the dealer adds the fees to the on-road price of a new car.
A battery-operated vehicle is registered without any RC fee.
For example: A Kazipet buyer who takes a car loan and registers the new car under TG-03 pays ₹2,300 in RTO fees ahead of the life tax. Registration accounts for ₹600, the smart card RC for ₹200 and the hypothecation entry for ₹1,500.
Owners of older Warangal cars pay ₹5,000 to renew a 15-year-old registration and ₹10,000 once it is past 20 years. Renew late and the bill grows by ₹500 a month for a car and ₹300 a month for a motorcycle.
Life tax, the road safety cess, the HSRP and other state service charges are all extra.
The dealer starts on Vahan, and your district decides between TG-24 and TG-03
Registration of a new Warangal car begins with the dealer, who has issued the temporary registration on Vahan since 23 March 2026. The permanent number then depends on the buyer’s district, so a Hanamkonda buyer gets TG-03 and a Narsampet buyer TG-24, even from the same showroom.
The dealer needs a valid policy to register the car, so buy it before delivery
Issued by the dealer on Vahan and valid for no longer than one month
Apply for the permanent number within 7 days on Form 20, plus Form 21 and Form 22
The on-road price covers life tax, the ₹5,000 safety cess and the ₹600 fee
Your district’s DTO allots the number, the HSRP is fitted and the smart card RC is issued
Under a January 2026 order, as reported, an authorised dealer can register a new private car without a visit to either DTO
Reports say the smart card RC is sent by speed post, so the dealer needs a reliable address
Both Warangal codes are Zone B, so Own Damage costs less than in Hyderabad
A used car is transferred by the office named on its RC, so a TS-03 car is handled by Hanumakonda and a TS-24 car by Warangal, wherever the buyer lives. Begin on Vahan with Form 29, the seller’s notice, and Form 30, which you both sign, and pay ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.
Afterwards the buyer has 14 days to transfer the insurance as well.
When the loan is closed, send the bank’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) with Form 35 to DTO Warangal or DTO Hanumakonda, whichever is on the RC. No central fee applies, though a state service charge may, and our Telangana RTO guide gives the document list.
Both Warangal offices moved vehicle registration to the Vahan portal on 23 March 2026, and licences are handled on the Sarathi portal. A trip to the DTO is needed only for whatever is left after the online steps.
Ask for a duplicate RC at the office that issued yours, which is Hanumakonda for a TG-03 car. Use Form 26, find the charge in the fees table, and try the Kiwi Insurance RC status check to look up a number.
Licence applications and driving test slots are booked on Sarathi. Tax validity and vehicle search remain on the department’s own portal, and our Telangana RTO guide lists the other services.
Whether your car is TG-24, TG-03 or an older TS number, search it on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in mParivahan to see and pay challans, and the challan states the amount.
For the fuller list of offences and what each one costs, go to our Telangana RTO guide.
What you do depends on the state code your car carries now
A Telangana car moving to Warangal or Hanumakonda keeps its TG or TS number, and the RC address is all that changes. A car from another state must be re-registered, under TG-24 or TG-03 by district, after more than 12 months in Telangana.
The office in your old state issues a No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Form 28
After 12 months here, apply to DTO Warangal or DTO Hanumakonda for your address
Telangana charges tax once on the car’s cost, at the rate for its age
Fit the new TG plate when it is allotted, then update the insurance
Taking a Warangal car out of Telangana runs the other way. Apply online, with a slot booking, to your DTO for the NOC on Form 28, and bring the RC, the policy, proof that tax is paid, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and a police verification certificate.
Worth knowing: Any change of number or address is a reason to inform your insurer that day, and our Telangana RTO guide has every form in full.
Instead of TG-24 or TG-03, a Warangal buyer who expects transfers between states can ask the dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number. With a BH plate, a posting from Warangal to Raipur means the car goes along without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or a second registration.
Private-sector staff qualify through Form 60, which their employer signs if it has offices in 4 or more states or union territories. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
Our Telangana RTO guide covers eligibility and BH tax.
The official PDF for each task at DTO Warangal or DTO Hanumakonda
In Warangal most RTO work starts on the Vahan portal or the Sarathi portal, and a paper form is printed only if your DTO asks for one.
Learner’s licence, driving licence, renewal or change of details, all on one application
Download PDFOur Telangana RTO guide tells you which form each task needs, and the list of RTO forms on the Parivahan Sewa website has the rest.
The Own Damage part of a Warangal premium is priced by the motor tariff zone of whichever DTO registered the car. Warangal and Hanumakonda are both Zone B, so a TG-24 or TG-03 car usually pays less for Own Damage than the same car registered in Hyderabad, and Third-Party cover has one price nationwide.
Zone B for both offices means the Own Damage rate is lower than for a car registered in Zone A Hyderabad
Choosing between the two codes is not up to you, and both get the same Zone B rating
Third-Party premiums are fixed for India by engine capacity, so Warangal quotes differ on Own Damage and optional covers
A policy that shows TS-03 or TS-24 matches your plate and needs no change until the RC changes
Check cashless partner garages around Hanamkonda, Kazipet and Warangal before picking a plan
Change the RC at the DTO that registered the car, then move the policy within 14 days
Before either DTO registers a new car, the dealer has to see a valid policy. A sale means the RC changes first and the policy follows within 14 days, and a new number or address means you inform your insurer so the policy and the RC agree.
Worth knowing: A TG-24 car that moves to Hyderabad is still rated Zone B, as the registering office stays the same, but inform your insurer of the new address.
Neither DTO in Warangal registers a vehicle without at least Third-Party cover, which every vehicle in India must have With the DTO formalities for your Warangal car complete, make sure your name is on the policy. Kiwi Insurance car and bike plans are a click away below.

TG-24, for DTO Warangal and Warangal district. Hanumakonda, which takes in Hanamkonda and Kazipet, has its own code, TG-03, so the Warangal city area uses two codes.
