Rajajinagar RTO is the everyday name for KA-02, the office the department calls RTO Bangalore West. Directories agree that it works from a corporation shopping complex in Rajajinagar, something not every Bengaluru office can claim.
Picture a car from the West office with the plate KA 02 AB 1234. KA names Karnataka, 02 points to Bengaluru West as the registering office, AB is the series and 1234 is the four-digit number.

Worth knowing: Buy a car while living in the West office’s area and it stays KA-02 for as long as it is registered in the state. A later move to Electronic City leaves the plate alone, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Karnataka or its registration details are changed.
Cars registered at KA-02 since 1 April 2019 came with a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) fitted at delivery, so only an older Bengaluru West car still needs one installed.
To book, open the booking portal named on the Karnataka Transport Department website and follow its link to the SIAM site, which gives the date for a KA-02 car. Sticker rules and the rest of the HSRP detail sit on our Karnataka RTO guide.
KA-02 first, then the nearby codes that get mistaken for it
Rajajinagar RTO has a single code, KA-02. On the west side the codes that trip people up are KA-41, the Jnanabharathi office that many listings call Rajarajeshwari Nagar RTO, KA-04 for Bengaluru North, and KA-52 Nelamangala on the Tumakuru Road edge of the city.
The listed Rajajinagar address, the hours and the papers to bring
Directories put KA-02 in the Corporation (BBMP) Shopping Complex on 12th Main Road, 2nd Block, Rajajinagar, and they agree with one another on it. As the address comes from directories rather than the department, confirm it before you set off.
Directories quote 10 am to 5 pm for the Bengaluru offices, while some show a Saturday and others leave it out.
Move a KA-02 RC to the buyer once Forms 29 and 30 are in
Record a new home address after moving house
Apply for a fresh copy when a KA-02 RC goes missing or is torn
Have the bank’s hypothecation added or removed
Ask for the NOC that the RTO in the next state will want
Automated driving tests are held elsewhere in the city, at the Jnanabharathi (KA-41) and Electronic City (KA-51) offices, which run Bengaluru’s two automated tracks. Autos and KSRTC or BMTC buses are registered under KA-57 rather than KA-02.

KA-02 is named for West Bengaluru, but a locality list for the office could not be confirmed from an official source. An existing car answers the question itself, since 02 on the RC means Bengaluru West keeps its file, and a dealer registering a new car applies to the office for your home address.
Worth knowing: The Rajajinagar name describes where the office is listed, not the edge of its area. If your home lies somewhere between the West, North and Jnanabharathi offices, the dealer or the office itself can say which one takes it.
Each card opens the guide for another Bengaluru office, beginning with Jnanabharathi on the Mysore Road side and Nelamangala on the Tumakuru Road edge, followed by the city and state guides.

One Karnataka lifetime tax, collected by KA-02 at registration
Road tax on a KA-02 car is the Karnataka lifetime tax, which Bengaluru West collects once when the car is registered. It is set by the car’s cost, with lower bands for electric cars, and a company-owned car pays the same rate as one owned by an individual.
Bringing a car from another state into Bengaluru West? Karnataka tax applies after it has stayed in the state for more than 30 days. When the registration is moved here, the bill is a share of the lifetime tax by the car’s age, from 93% at up to 2 years to 25% beyond 15.
Electric cars registered from 1 May 2026 pay 5%, 8% or 10% by cost; see our Karnataka RTO guide for the rest.
Fees at Rajajinagar follow the central rules, so the West office asks the same amounts as Yeshwanthpur or Jnanabharathi. You pay them on the Vahan portal, and on a new car they come inside the dealer’s bill.
For example: Finance a new hatchback through a bank and register it at KA-02, and the RTO charges come to ₹2,300, being ₹600 for registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 to note the loan, before road tax.
When a KA-02 car turns 15, renewal costs ₹5,000, and ₹10,000 once it is past 20; each month of delay adds ₹500 for a car and ₹300 for a motorcycle.
A choice number is extra. The annual report for 2021-22 gives ₹20,000 within the running series and ₹75,000 for an advance series number.
Plates, road tax and the two cesses are billed on top of everything in the table.
Your address on the papers, not the dealer’s, brings a new car to KA-02
Live in the area Bengaluru West covers and your new car is registered there with a KA-02 number, even if you bought it from a showroom on the other side of Bengaluru. The dealer files everything on Vahan.
Arrange cover yourself or through the dealer before the car is registered
Your home address goes on Form 20, which the showroom lodges on Vahan
Tax, the cesses and the RTO fee are part of what the dealer collects
Bengaluru West approves the application, and the car gets its KA-02 number and HSRP
Ownership of a KA-02 car changes at Bengaluru West, the office on its RC, or online on Vahan. The seller signs Form 29, buyer and seller sign Form 30, and the transfer fee is ₹300 for a car and ₹150 for a motorcycle.
Then comes the policy. The new owner has 14 days to take over the insurance in their name.
A repaid loan comes off the RC once Form 35 reaches KA-02 with the bank’s No Objection Certificate (NOC), and no RTO fee is charged. Each step’s papers are listed on our Karnataka RTO guide.
Most KA-02 tasks begin on the Vahan portal, and licences begin on the Sarathi portal. Since 1 November 2021, Karnataka has let owners finish 18 Vahan and 15 Sarathi services without going to an office.
A KA-02 owner with a lost or damaged RC applies for a copy on Form 26 and pays the fee listed in the fees table. Any registration can be looked up with the Kiwi Insurance RC status check.
Learner and driving licence applications go through Sarathi, or a Bangalore One or Karnataka One centre. Bengaluru’s automated driving tests are taken at Jnanabharathi or Electronic City, and renewals are covered in our Karnataka RTO guide.
To check whether a KA-02 car has an unpaid challan, enter the registration number on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in the mParivahan app, then pay online.
The complete list of offences is kept on our Karnataka RTO guide.
Settling in West Bengaluru with a car, or taking a KA-02 car out of Karnataka
Coming from Mysuru or Hubballi with a KA car? Only the RC address changes. A car on another state’s plates is different, as it owes Karnataka tax once it has stayed more than 30 days and needs a KA number once it has been kept in Karnataka for over 12 months.
The RTO in the state of registration issues it on Form 28
Due once the car has been in Karnataka beyond 30 days, as a share set by its age
File with Bengaluru West once the car has been kept in Karnataka more than 12 months
If you are leaving Karnataka, apply to Bengaluru West for the NOC on Form 28. Part of the lifetime tax can be refunded at rates the Karnataka Act provides, and the KA-02 office is the place to ask how; inform your insurer when the car gets its new number.
A Bharat series (BH) number is the alternative to KA-02 for someone who expects to be posted to other states. The dealer applies for it, and a later move needs no No Objection Certificate (NOC).
In the private sector you qualify if your company runs offices in 4 or more states or union territories, and it signs Form 60 to say so. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
Our Karnataka RTO guide covers eligibility in full and the BH tax charged every 2 years.

Insurers price the Own Damage cover by the zone of the registering office, and Bengaluru West is a Zone A office, Bengaluru being Bangalore in the India Motor Tariff. The Third-Party premium does not change by city.
Zone A is the rating for a KA-02 car, which puts its Own Damage cost above that of a Zone B car from Hubballi
One all-India Third-Party price per engine size means the real difference between plans lies in Own Damage and optional covers
A KA-02 car stays in the same rating after a move, as it belongs to the office of registration
Bought one? Bengaluru West moves the RC first, then you get 14 days to put the policy in your name
A valid policy is one of the papers KA-02 checks before it registers a car. Whenever the RC changes, whether a new owner, a new address or a fresh KA number, inform your insurer so that both documents agree.
Third-Party cover is the legal minimum for any KA-02 car or bike Finished at the West office? Pick car or bike below for the matching Kiwi Insurance plan.
