Yelahanka RTO at a glance
Yelahanka RTO is the KA-50 office that directories list for the northern suburbs of Bengaluru. Two things trip people up here. Directories give it two different addresses, and the Bengaluru North office (KA-04) and the Devanahalli office (KA-43) both sound as if they should be the north-side RTO.
How to read a Yelahanka (KA-50) number plate
Here is KA 50 AB 1234 broken down. KA is the state, Karnataka; 50 is the code Yelahanka gives every car it registers; AB is the series of letters; and 1234 is the four-digit number.

Worth knowing: Selling the house in Yelahanka New Town and moving to Mangaluru does not touch the 50. A Karnataka plate keeps its office code for life inside the state, and the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Karnataka or its registration details are changed.
HSRP number plates in Yelahanka
KA-50 cars sold new since 1 April 2019 already have a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), fitted at the dealership.
For an older Yelahanka car, the plate has to be installed. The Karnataka Transport Department points owners to its booking portal on the SIAM website, which also shows the date that applies. Everything else about plates is on our Karnataka RTO guide.
Yelahanka RTO code and the codes around it
KA-50 is the only code the Yelahanka office issues. The north side of Bengaluru has more codes than people expect, though, and the table shows the ones most often confused with it.

Two directory addresses, unconfirmed hours and the papers to bring
Which Yelahanka address is right? One group of directories names the Karnataka Housing Board complex in Sector B of Yelahanka New Town, and another names Survey No. 111 at Singanayakanahalli. Both share the 560064 pincode, so confirm the building before you go.
Yelahanka RTO office details
Directory pages for KA-50 also differ on Saturday opening, and the department’s own address list for the city offices was not available.

What the Yelahanka RTO does not handle
Bengaluru’s automated driving test tracks are at Jnanabharathi (KA-41) and Electronic City (KA-51), according to the department, and none is listed at Yelahanka, so check the test place on your Sarathi booking. Cars from Devanahalli town go to the KA-43 office.

Areas under Yelahanka RTO
Directories describe KA-50 as the office for Yelahanka and the northern suburbs. The department’s own area list for Yelahanka was not available, so for a car you already own, the code on the RC is the answer, and for a new one the dealer works it out from your address.

Nearby areas that belong to other offices
Worth knowing: The line between Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural matters on this side of the city. An address in Devanahalli town is registered at KA-43, even though the department groups that office with the city ones in its report.

Road tax in Yelahanka
The lifetime rate Karnataka sets, collected once by KA-50
Yelahanka collects Karnataka’s lifetime road tax for the state, in a single payment at the first registration of a KA-50 car. Price and fuel type set the band, and a car owned by a company pays the same band as one owned by an individual.

Working it out for a ₹15 lakh car at Yelahanka
An electric car of the same price would pay 8% from 1 May 2026, the date the new electric bands began. For a car that arrives on another state’s registration, Karnataka tax applies once it has spent more than 30 days in the state, and our Karnataka RTO guide has the remaining rules.
RTO fees and charges in Yelahanka
Yelahanka has no fee list of its own. Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules sets one schedule for all of India, which Yelahanka collects on the Vahan portal, and the showroom pays it on a new car.
RTO fees for a private car and bike at Yelahanka
For example: Take a new car on a loan to a Yelahanka New Town address. The KA-50 fees add up to ₹2,300, being ₹600 for registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 for the hypothecation, and the road tax comes on top.
Older KA-50 cars pay ₹5,000 to renew at 15 years and ₹10,000 at 20. Missing the renewal date adds ₹500 a month to a car’s bill, or ₹300 to a motorcycle’s.
A choice number is an extra. The department’s 2021-22 report quotes ₹20,000 from the running series and ₹75,000 from an advance series, with advance series also auctioned.
These fees do not include road tax, its two cesses or the HSRP.
Registering a new car in Yelahanka
A Yelahanka address takes the dealer’s Vahan file to KA-50
Bought a car at a showroom in the city centre but live in Yelahanka? The dealer still sends the Vahan application to the office for your home address, and a Yelahanka address points it to KA-50.
- 1
Policy in hand
The car must be insured before it is registered, with an insurer of your choice
- 2
Address proof given
Your proof of address tells the dealer which office takes the file
- 3
Charges on the bill
The invoice lists the lifetime tax, both cesses and the ₹600 registration fee
- 4
Approved at KA-50
Yelahanka checks the application and issues a KA-50 number
- 5
HSRP fitted
The dealer fits the plate before handing over, and the RC is issued
Devanahalli is separate
A home in Devanahalli town is registered at KA-43, not KA-50
Bikes pay less cess
The welfare cess on a two-wheeler is ₹500 against ₹1,000 for a car
Zone A premium
A KA-50 car is quoted at Zone A rates for Own Damage
Transferring car ownership in Yelahanka
Sold your KA-50 car? Yelahanka records the new owner, since it holds the file. On Vahan, the seller submits Form 29, both of you sign Form 30, and the fee is ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.
Insurance does not move by itself, and a KA-50 buyer has 14 days after the RC change to transfer the policy.
Taking the hypothecation off a KA-50 RC
After the final repayment, Yelahanka removes the bank from the RC at no RTO fee, once you send Form 35 with the lender’s No Objection Certificate (NOC). Papers for the whole process are listed on the Karnataka RTO guide.
Yelahanka RTO services online
Vehicle work on a KA-50 car is done on the Vahan portal, and licence work on the Sarathi portal. Karnataka has run 18 Vahan and 15 Sarathi services online since 1 November 2021, so many tasks no longer need a trip to Yelahanka.
Duplicate RC and RC status check for Yelahanka
If the KA-50 RC is lost, apply on Form 26 and pay the duplicate fee from the fees table. Whether it reads KA-50 or another code, the RC behind a number can be checked with the Kiwi Insurance RC status check.
Driving licence services for Yelahanka
For a licence, use Sarathi or a Bangalore One or Karnataka One centre, then take the test at whichever track your slot names. Renewals and other licence work are on our Karnataka RTO guide.
Traffic fines and e-challan in Yelahanka
Got a challan on a KA-50 car? Pay it online on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or the mParivahan app, where the vehicle number brings up every pending fine.
Fines Yelahanka drivers should know
Fines for speeding, red lights and the rest are on the Karnataka RTO guide.
Moving your car to Yelahanka
North Bengaluru arrivals, and KA-50 cars on their way out
A family relocating to Yelahanka from Belagavi or Ballari keeps the KA number it has, and the RC needs only the new address. Cars from outside Karnataka follow the steps below, which run on two clocks, 30 days for tax and 12 months for a new number.
Settling in north Bengaluru
Re-registering an outside car at Yelahanka RTO
- 1
Get the NOC
The original registering office issues the No Objection Certificate on Form 28
- 2
Pay Karnataka tax
Due on Vahan once the car has been in Karnataka more than 30 days
- 3
Register at KA-50
After 12 months here, Yelahanka gives the car a KA-50 number
- 4
Plate and insurer
With KA-50 plates on, inform your insurer so the policy shows them
If you are leaving Karnataka, Yelahanka is where a KA-50 owner applies for the NOC, on Form 28, ahead of the move. Karnataka law also returns part of the lifetime tax for a car moved to another state; the office can explain how to apply, and our Karnataka RTO guide covers the rest.
BH series registration in Yelahanka
Posted to a new state every few years by your employer? A Yelahanka buyer can ask the dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number rather than KA-50, and a BH car can move states without a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Employees of a private company qualify when it has offices in 4 or more states or union territories and signs Form 60. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
The Karnataka RTO guide explains who is eligible and how the BH tax works.

Car insurance in Yelahanka
The Own Damage premium on a KA-50 car is set by the zone in which Yelahanka, its registering office, falls. KA-50 is a Bengaluru office and Bangalore is in Zone A of the India Motor Tariff, so Yelahanka cars pay Zone A rates, while the Third-Party premium is the same everywhere.

Zone A, like the city
Zone A covers KA-50 as one of the Bengaluru offices, the same as KA-01 or KA-53

Devanahalli cars
For a KA-43 car from Bengaluru Rural district, check the zone on your quote

Third-Party costs the same
It is notified nationally by engine size, so differences between quotes lie in Own Damage and optional covers

Bought a used KA-50 car
The seller’s policy can be moved to you within 14 days of Yelahanka changing the RC
How insurance links to the Yelahanka RTO
There is no registration at Yelahanka without insurance in place. When the office changes the name, address or number on your RC, inform your insurer straight away to keep the policy in line.
Insurance for your car and bike
