Kalaburagi registers its vehicles under KA-32, and the office is listed as headed by a Deputy Commissioner for Transport who is also the Senior RTO, a rank above a district RTO. Yadgir, once part of Kalaburagi district, was reported to become a district of its own in 2009, and its office uses KA-33.
On a plate such as KA 32 AB 1234, the first block, KA, is the Karnataka state code and 32 marks the Kalaburagi RTO. The pair AB is the series, and 1234 is the four-digit number, which belongs to one car within that series.

Worth knowing: A KA-32 car still shows KA-32 after its owner moves to Yadgir, or anywhere else in the state. The code does not change with the owner’s address, and it changes only if the car is re-registered outside Karnataka or its registration details are changed.
Every new car registered at KA-32 since 1 April 2019 has come with a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP). A Kalaburagi car from before that date has to have one fitted to comply with Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

KA-32, the Yadgir code that split from it, and the Bidar and Vijayapura codes
KA-32 is the single Kalaburagi code on the Karnataka list. The code easiest to confuse with it is KA-33, Yadgir’s, since Yadgir was carved out of Kalaburagi district, and the Bidar codes to the north, KA-38, KA-39 and KA-56, can be mistaken for it too.
Yadgir was reported to become a separate district at the end of December 2009 and was formally made the 30th district in April 2010. Its own office registers vehicles under KA-33.
The KA-32 office on Sedam Road and the senior post that heads it
KA-32 is the Kalaburagi district code on the Karnataka list, and its office is listed as a Regional Transport Office. The details below are copied from lists of Transport Department contacts, so confirm them before travelling to Sedam Road.
Directory copies of the department’s contact list place Regional Transport Office, Kalaburagi at Rajpur Cross, on Sedam Road. The officer named for it is a Deputy Commissioner for Transport who also serves as the Senior RTO.
Worth knowing: Kalaburagi was reported in 2022 to be one of seven Karnataka RTOs with an automated driving test track. The test slot is booked on Sarathi, which confirms where and when to come.

KA-32 is the code for Kalaburagi district, and the address on your papers is what decides it. Addresses in Yadgir now belong to the Yadgir office, KA-33, and addresses in Bidar or Vijayapura districts to their own offices.
To see which office holds an existing car’s file, read the RC or put the number, KA32AB1234 for example, into the finder at the top of this page.
Worth knowing: If you move house from Yadgir into Kalaburagi city, or the other way, the car keeps its number and only the RC address is updated. Then inform your insurer of the new address.
Kalaburagi district borders Yadgir, Bidar and Vijayapura districts in Karnataka, and the states of Maharashtra and Telangana. Cars from each of those places are registered with their own offices, so their plates show a code other than KA-32.

A one-time Karnataka tax, worked out on the cost of the car A car registered as KA-32 pays the same Karnataka lifetime road tax as one registered in Bengaluru, in a single payment at registration. The rate goes up with the price, and the tax carries an 11% cess plus a one-time welfare cess of ₹1,000 for a car.
Four bands by price, starting at 13% for a car of ₹5 lakhs or less and topping out at 18%
The welfare cess is ₹500. The tax itself is shown on Vahan for your model
Since the 2026 amendment, 5% to 10% of the price, by price band
Worked example: Say you buy a ₹4 lakh car in Kalaburagi. Its lifetime tax at 13% is ₹52,000, the 11% cess on that is ₹5,720, and the welfare cess is ₹1,000, which makes ₹58,720 in total.
A car owned by an individual and one owned by a company pay the same Karnataka bands
Moving its registration to Karnataka costs a share of the lifetime tax, 93% at up to 2 years, 25% after 15
Vahan shows the tax with cess before you pay; the full state table is in our Karnataka RTO guide
The registration fees charged at Rajpur Cross are national amounts under Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, the same as at the Yadgir or Bidar office. Payment is online on Vahan, and for a new car it is part of what the dealer collects.
Worked example: A family on Sedam Road buys a new car with a loan. At KA-32 they pay ₹600 for registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 to record the loan, which totals ₹2,300 before the Karnataka road tax.
Renewing a KA-32 car that has turned 15 costs ₹5,000, and one older than 20 pays ₹10,000. If the renewal is late, ₹500 a month is added for a car and ₹300 a month for a motorcycle.
A Kalaburagi address gets KA-32, a Yadgir address KA-33
Your dealer registers the new car on Vahan, but your address chooses the office. Two cars from one Kalaburagi showroom can end up as KA-32 and KA-33, when one buyer lives in the district and the other in Yadgir.
Get Third-Party cover in place before registration, with any insurer you like
Your address proof goes on the Vahan application and picks KA-32 or another code
Tax, the two cesses and the RTO fee are inside the on-road price
The office for your address checks the file and issues the number
Security plates are fitted at the dealer, then the Registration Certificate is issued
The address on the policy should match the Vahan application
A Kalaburagi two-wheeler is registered the same way under KA-32
KA-33 is issued for a Yadgir address, even at a Kalaburagi dealer
When a KA-32 car is sold, the Kalaburagi office puts the buyer’s name on its record. The seller files Form 29, seller and buyer file Form 30 together, and the fee for a car is ₹300.
Scan the KA-32 RC and policy, plus a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and buyer ID
The buyer transfers the insurance within 14 days of buying
If a bank loan still shows on the RC (hypothecation), the lender’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Form 35 clear it free of charge. A sale to a buyer in Telangana or Maharashtra takes longer, as our Karnataka RTO guide explains.
Vehicle applications for KA-32 go through the Vahan portal and licence applications through the Sarathi portal. Many of them have been possible in Karnataka without a visit to the office since 1 November 2021.
A duplicate of a lost KA-32 RC is requested on Form 26, costing ₹300 for a car. The Kiwi Insurance page lets you check your RC status whenever you need it.
Learner’s licence forms are filled on Sarathi, and the same portal books the driving test, which you take at the office in person. Further online options appear in our Karnataka RTO guide.
Under section 196 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended in 2019, being caught with an uninsured car in Kalaburagi costs ₹2,000, and ₹4,000 for every offence after that.
Challans on a KA-32 car can be cleared at echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in the mParivahan app, and the rest of the fines are listed in our Karnataka RTO guide.
Within Karnataka the number stays; from Maharashtra or Telangana it does not
A car that moves to Kalaburagi from Bengaluru, Ballari or anywhere else in Karnataka keeps its KA number, and only the RC address changes. Kalaburagi district also borders Maharashtra and Telangana, and a car from either state, or any other, must be re-registered here once it has been kept in Karnataka for more than 12 months.
A car from outside kept in Karnataka beyond 30 days becomes liable for Karnataka tax
Its old RTO issues the NOC against Form 28
A car kept in Karnataka beyond 12 months must be re-registered as KA-32 under section 47
For an owner leaving Karnataka, the order reverses. The Kalaburagi office issues the NOC on Form 28 and the new state registers the car.
Worth knowing: When the KA-32 number is issued, inform your insurer so the policy carries the new number. Our Karnataka RTO guide gives the state rules for vehicles coming from outside.
Owners in Kalaburagi who are posted from one state to another can ask for a Bharat (BH) series number in place of KA-32, and moving then needs no No Objection Certificate (NOC). Defence and government staff can apply, and so can a private employee whose firm has offices in 4 or more states or union territories and supplies Form 60.
The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
A BH car pays tax every 2 years rather than the Karnataka lifetime tax (Karnataka RTO guide).

Your Own Damage premium depends in part on the zone of the office that registered the car. KA-32 is Zone B, so a Kalaburagi car usually costs less to insure than the same model registered in Bengaluru, which is Zone A. Third-Party premiums do not differ between the two zones.
Zone B is the rating for a KA-32 car, which keeps Own Damage cover cheaper than for a Bengaluru registration
The Third-Party price is set nationally by engine size, whatever the RTO code
KA-33 and KA-38 cars are Zone B as well, the same as Kalaburagi
Check which cashless partner garages are near your home in Kalaburagi before you buy
The policy has to begin before KA-32 registers the car
Second-hand KA-32 buyers have 14 days to switch cover
Inform your insurer once a car from outside gets its KA-32 number
Only the address changes; the zone stays with the first office
