Dewas RTO at a glance
MP-41 is the Dewas RTO code, issued by the District Transport Office (DTO) in Dewas to vehicles whose owners live in Dewas district. It is a separate office from the Indore and Ujjain Regional Transport Offices (RTO), even though Dewas belongs to the Ujjain revenue division.
Dewas RTO key facts
How to read a Dewas (MP-41) number plate
If a plate reads MP 41 AB 1234, it was issued in Dewas, with MP standing for Madhya Pradesh, 41 for the Dewas DTO, AB for the letter series and 1234 for the four-digit number that one vehicle carries.

Worth knowing: If you take a Dewas car to a new job in Indore, it keeps MP-41 and never becomes MP-09, as within the state the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Madhya Pradesh or its registration details are changed. MP-42, one number up, is Shajapur.
HSRP number plates in Dewas
If you buy a new car in Dewas, the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is already on it, since dealers have had to fit one on every vehicle sold from 1 April 2019 under Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Worth knowing: If your MP-41 vehicle predates that, its HSRP installation is booked through the booking portal named on the Madhya Pradesh transport department website, which also carries the date for it, and our Madhya Pradesh RTO page has more.

MP-41 for Dewas, and why Indore, Ujjain and Shajapur codes are not Dewas ones
Dewas has one entry on the Vahan office list, MP-41. If an RC shows MP-09 it belongs to Indore, MP-13 to Ujjain and MP-42 to Shajapur, three separate offices that each register their own district.
If an address is in Alot or the former Ringnod tehsil, the code is MP-43 for Ratlam, not MP-41. Both places once belonged to the old Dewas states but are part of Ratlam district today.

Dewas RTO office address and timings
One District Transport Office for Dewas, on the Ujjain road side as directories list it
If you own an MP-41 vehicle, the Dewas DTO is the office for your registration, licence and RC work. Two directories put it on the Ujjain road side of the town, one at the bus depot on Ujjain Road and the other on the Ujjain Bypass. The timings are not officially confirmed; ask the Dewas DTO before you go.

Both listings share the 455001 pincode, but neither is an official address, so the table gives the side of town rather than a street number.

Which areas come under Dewas RTO
Dewas district, and the two former Dewas tehsils that now belong to Ratlam
If your home address is in Dewas district, MP-41 is your code. If it is in Indore, Ujjain or Shajapur district, the car goes to that district’s office, and history adds one more twist.
Dewas RTO areas and the codes next door
The twist is the old states of Dewas Senior and Dewas Junior. Ringnod was a Dewas Senior tehsil and Alot a Dewas Junior one, yet both are now part of Ratlam district, so if you live there your car is registered in Ratlam.
If you are unsure, note that no official list of the areas this office covers is available, and the RC address decides the office.
Worth knowing: If you move house inside Dewas district, update the RC address and carry on with the same MP-41 number.
RTOs near Dewas
Two neighbouring districts keep their own offices, Indore with a full RTO under MP-09 and Shajapur with a District Transport Office (DTO) under MP-42, and neither registers a vehicle whose owner lives in Dewas district.

Road tax in Dewas
MP-41 vehicles pay Madhya Pradesh lifetime tax, once, on first registration
If you register a car at MP-41, you pay the Madhya Pradesh lifetime tax, a single charge on the standard price. The state’s published rate is reported as 8% when the car costs under ₹10 lakhs, and Vahan shows the exact amount, so look there before you pay.

8%, under ₹10 lakhs (reported)
One row for cars and two-wheelers whose standard price is below ten lakh rupees

10% reported for the middle band
For a car priced from ₹10 to 20 lakhs, charged on its whole standard price

14%, over ₹20 lakhs (reported)
For the dearest cars, again on the full standard price

Electric car registered now
If it is an e-car up to ₹20 lakhs registered by 26 March 2026, Notification 857 of 9 April 2025 exempted it, and later, see Vahan

Which price counts
The ex-showroom price including GST and cess with discounts ignored, or the dealer’s invoice if that is higher
Old vehicle scrapped?
If you hold a Certificate of Deposit from a scrapping facility in the state, the new vehicle’s lifetime tax is halved
Other vehicle types
If it is a taxi, bus or goods vehicle, a different schedule applies, as our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide shows
RTO fees and charges in Dewas
If you are comparing Dewas with Indore on fees, there is nothing to compare, as both charge the national Rule 81 amounts. You pay through Vahan, or, if the car is new, the showroom pays while it registers the car.
RTO fees for a private car and bike in Dewas
Worked out for Dewas: If your first car is on a loan, the MP-41 office charges ₹600 to register it, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 to note the hypothecation, which makes ₹2,300 in fees on top of the lifetime tax.
If the car is still with you at 15, renewing the registration costs ₹5,000, and past 20 it costs ₹10,000. If you renew late, ₹500 is added for each month on a car and ₹300 for each month on a motorcycle.
Worth knowing: If the Vahan receipt looks higher, that is the lifetime tax, the HSRP and any service charge, which are not part of this table.
Registering a new car in Dewas
If you buy from a showroom, it files on Vahan and the DTO gives the car MP-41
If you are buying new, the dealer handles registration. The showroom applies on Vahan with your Dewas address and pays the tax and fee, the DTO approves it, and your car is given an MP-41 number.

Scooters too
If it is a two-wheeler, it takes the same route and gets MP-41
Transferring car ownership in Dewas
If you sell an MP-41 car within Madhya Pradesh, the number goes with it. You sign Form 29 as the seller, you and the buyer both sign Form 30, and the Dewas DTO charges ₹300 for a car.
If the buyer is in another state, you will need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Dewas office before the sale goes through. After the RC transfer, your buyer gets 14 days to put the policy into their name.
Removing a loan (hypothecation) from the RC in Dewas
If the loan is cleared, apply on Vahan with the bank’s NOC and Form 35, and the DTO gives you a new RC without the lender, free, as the Madhya Pradesh RTO guide explains.
Dewas RTO services online
If it is about your vehicle, use the Vahan portal, and if it is about your licence, use the Sarathi portal, as either sends the Dewas application to the MP-41 office.
Duplicate RC and RC status check in Dewas
If your RC is lost or damaged, request a duplicate on Form 26 through Vahan, at ₹300 for a car, and then check your RC status on the Kiwi Insurance tool whenever you want an update.
Driving licence services in Dewas
If you are learning to drive in Dewas, choose your test slot on Sarathi before going to the office for the test. If you need a renewal, that starts on Sarathi too, and our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide covers each service.
Traffic fines and e-challan in Dewas
If you are caught driving uninsured in Dewas, the fine is ₹2,000, and if it happens again, ₹4,000, as section 196 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 provides.
Common traffic fines in Dewas
If a challan reaches you, the amount on it is the one to pay, on echallan.parivahan.gov.in, and our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide has the fines for other offences.
Moving your car to Dewas
If your car is from another state, it needs MP-41 after 12 months; if it is from MP, it keeps its plate
If you bring a car to Dewas from Gujarat, Rajasthan or any other state, it can stay on its old number for 12 months, and after that it must be registered again at the Dewas DTO with an MP-41 number. If it comes from Indore or anywhere else in Madhya Pradesh, it keeps its number and you only change the address on the RC.

How lifetime tax is worked out for a car from another state
If the car is young, it pays most of the new-car tax, and if it is old, very little, with the share running from 93% in year one to 16% after 11 years. For a ₹5 lakh car aged one and a half, that is ₹5 lakh × 8% × 86% = ₹34,400 at the reported rate, which Vahan confirms.
- 1
NOC from the old state
Ask the first registering office for it on Form 28
- 2
Apply at Dewas DTO
If your car has spent more than 12 months in Dewas, the DTO needs your Dewas address proof
- 3
Age-based tax
Vahan applies the share that matches the car’s age
- 4
MP-41 plates on
New plates are fitted after the number is allotted
If you are leaving Madhya Pradesh, the same steps apply in reverse, beginning with an NOC from the Dewas DTO on Form 28.
Worth knowing: Inform your insurer once you settle in Dewas and again after the MP-41 number is allotted, and check our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide for the full age table.
BH series registration in Dewas
If your job moves you between states, a Bharat series (BH) number can stand in for MP-41, and you would not need an NOC when you move. You qualify if you work for the government, defence or a public sector body, or for a private company with offices in 4 or more states or union territories, applying with Form 60.
The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car. If you choose BH, tax is paid every 2 years, at 8% below ₹10 lakhs, and our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide has the detail.
RTO forms and downloads
Thirteen forms you may need at the Dewas DTO
Give each form to the MP-41 office, and if you need one not listed, use the Parivahan Sewa website.
Car insurance in Dewas
If your car is registered at MP-41, the zone used for its Own Damage premium is the one for the Dewas office. Dewas is not one of the eight Zone A cities in the India Motor Tariff, so it is rated Zone B, usually a lower Own Damage premium than the same car pays in New Delhi, and the Third-Party premium is set for the whole country.

Zone B in Dewas
Dewas is Zone B for Own Damage cover, so it usually prices below a car registered in a Zone A city like Kolkata

Third-Party, same in every town
Set nationally by engine size, so an MP-41 car pays what an MP-09 car pays

Indore and Ujjain plates
If your car is MP-09 or MP-13, it is Zone B too, as every MP office is

Gujarat or Rajasthan plates
If your car has not yet been given MP-41, its old office still decides the rating
How the Dewas RTO and your policy connect
Cover first
If the car has no valid policy, the Dewas DTO will not register it
If you sell
The policy should follow the car to its buyer inside 14 days of the RC transfer
If you re-register
Inform your insurer when an outside car is given MP-41, so the policy and RC show one number
Insurance for your car and bike
If your car or bike is on MP-41 plates, Third-Party cover has to be in place before it is registered or driven If the Dewas DTO has registered your car or bike, the next step is a policy in your name, and you will find Kiwi Insurance plans below.
