Rewa RTO at a glance
Rewa runs a full Regional Transport Office (RTO), one of nine in Madhya Pradesh, and the code it issues is MP-17. Rewa district became smaller in 2023, when Mauganj was separated from it as the state’s 53rd district.
Rewa RTO key facts
How to read a Rewa (MP-17) number plate
On a Rewa plate such as MP 17 AB 1234, the opening MP stands for Madhya Pradesh and 17 for the Rewa RTO, after which AB gives the letter series and 1234 gives the four-digit number held by that vehicle alone.

Worth knowing: Seventeen on the plate records where the car was first registered, so an MP-17 car keeps it after the family moves to Satna, Jabalpur or Bhopal, given that the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Madhya Pradesh or its registration details are changed.
HSRP number plates in Rewa
Rewa dealers deliver every new car with a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in place, as Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 has required for vehicles made from 1 April 2019.
Worth knowing: An MP-17 vehicle from before that date gets its HSRP installation through the booking portal named on the Madhya Pradesh transport department website, where the deadline for older vehicles is also shown. More plate detail is in our Madhya Pradesh RTO page.
Rewa RTO code list
MP-17, the Mauganj question, and a town in Haryana with a similar name
Rewa has one code on the Vahan office list, MP-17. The codes easiest to confuse with it are MP-19 for Satna and MP-53 for Sidhi, both neighbouring districts, plus MP-72, which one directory gives to Mauganj.
MP-72 is missing from the Vahan office list, which ends at MP-71, so it appears here as listed and unconfirmed. Searches for Rewa also turn up Rewari, a town in Haryana, whose plates start with HR and whose office one directory lists as HR-36.

One full RTO for the district, with its location from a single directory
All MP-17 work, from a new registration to a licence test, is handled at the Rewa RTO. One directory places it on Allahabad Road at Rathara, near the state transport bus depot, but the address could not be confirmed from an official source. Timings are not confirmed by any official source; ask the Rewa office before you travel.

A second directory gives no street at all, only the town and its pincode. With so little to go on, the table keeps to the road name that one listing supplies.

Which areas come under Rewa RTO
Rewa district after Mauganj became a district of its own
If you live in Rewa district, MP-17 is your code. The district website describes Rewa as 6,240 square kilometres and 2,817 villages, and an address anywhere in it is registered here.
Rewa RTO areas and the codes next door
Mauganj is the open question. It has been a separate district since 2023, the fifth in Rewa division, but the only code tied to it comes from one directory and is absent from the Vahan office list, so a Mauganj owner should check with the Rewa RTO or the state transport website which office applies before starting.
Rewa has no official list of covered areas, so the address printed on your RC decides where your car is registered.
Worth knowing: Changing house within Rewa district changes only the address on the RC, never the MP-17 number.
RTOs near Rewa
Satna and Sidhi, both next to Rewa, register their own vehicles, Satna at an Additional Regional Transport Office (ARTO) with MP-19 and Sidhi at a District Transport Office (DTO) with MP-53. Mauganj, the district formed from Rewa, has only a directory-listed code so far.

RTO fees and charges in Rewa
Being a full RTO does not make Rewa dearer, since Rule 81 fixes the same national fees that Satna or Sidhi charge. Owners pay on Vahan, and on a new car the dealer clears them as part of the registration.
RTO fees for a private car and bike in Rewa
Worked out for Rewa: On a new car with a bank loan, the MP-17 office collects ₹600 for registration, ₹200 for the smart card RC and ₹1,500 for the hypothecation entry, adding up to ₹2,300 before the lifetime tax.
Older cars cost more to keep registered, at ₹5,000 for the renewal at 15 years and ₹10,000 after 20. Every month of delay adds ₹500 to a car’s renewal, or ₹300 to a motorcycle’s.
Worth knowing: The lifetime tax, the HSRP and any service charge are separate items, which is why a Vahan receipt usually totals more than these fees.
Registering a new car in Rewa
Rewa showrooms handle the Vahan application, after which the RTO gives the car MP-17
New car, new number, and very little for the buyer to do. The Rewa showroom applies on Vahan with your address, settles the tax and fee, and the RTO approves the file and allots an MP-17 registration.

Transferring car ownership in Rewa
Sell an MP-17 car inside the state and the plate does not change. Form 29 tells the RTO about the sale, Form 30 carries the transfer request signed by both people, and Rewa charges ₹300 for a car.
For a buyer outside Madhya Pradesh, the Rewa RTO issues a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before anything else. The policy then has to be shifted to the buyer within 14 days.
Removing a loan (hypothecation) from the RC in Rewa
With the loan closed, apply on Vahan using the bank’s NOC and Form 35, and the RTO reprints the RC without the lender at no cost, the documents being listed in our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide.
Rewa RTO services online
Online is the starting point in Rewa, with vehicle requests going through the Vahan portal and licence requests through the Sarathi portal before the MP-17 office takes them up.
Duplicate RC and RC status check in Rewa
Replacing a lost or spoilt RC means a Form 26 request on Vahan and a ₹300 fee for a car. To follow it up, check your RC status using the Kiwi Insurance tool.
Driving licence services in Rewa
In Rewa, a driving test begins with a slot chosen on Sarathi, followed by the test itself at the office. Licence renewal is a Sarathi task too, and each service is covered in our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide.
Traffic fines and e-challan in Rewa
Rewa uses the national penalties, which means ₹2,000 for driving without valid insurance and ₹4,000 if it happens again, as section 196 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 lays down.
Common traffic fines in Rewa
Check the challan itself for the amount owed on an MP-17 vehicle, clear it on echallan.parivahan.gov.in, and look in our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide for offences not shown here.
Moving your car to Rewa
A car from outside Madhya Pradesh gets MP-17 after 12 months, and an MP car keeps its plate
Moved to Rewa with a car from Uttar Pradesh or any other state? It can stay on its old number for up to 12 months, after which it must be registered again at the Rewa RTO under MP-17. A car registered elsewhere in Madhya Pradesh keeps its number and only the RC address changes.
A car moving to Rewa, from another state or from within Madhya Pradesh
How lifetime tax is worked out for a car from another state
Rather than the full amount, an incoming car pays a percentage of the new-car tax that shrinks with age, from 93% in year one to 16% after 11 years. Take a ₹9 lakh car that is six and a half years old: ₹9 lakh × 8% × 51% = ₹36,720 at the reported rate, which Vahan will confirm.
- 1
Collect the NOC
Request it on Form 28 from the office in the state you left
- 2
Apply at Rewa RTO
Required after more than 12 months in Rewa, with proof of your Rewa address
- 3
Pay the age-based tax
Vahan applies the percentage for the car’s age
- 4
Put on MP-17 plates
The new plates follow the allotment of the number
Going the other way, out of Madhya Pradesh? The same steps apply in reverse, beginning with a Form 28 NOC from the Rewa RTO before the car is registered in its new home state.
Worth knowing: Inform your insurer about the move and again once the MP-17 number is allotted, and find the full age table in our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide.
BH series registration in Rewa
A Bharat series (BH) number suits Rewa owners who are transferred between states, since a BH plate can follow them without a fresh NOC each time. Government, defence and public sector staff can apply, as can private sector employees whose employer operates in 4 or more states or union territories, using Form 60.
The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car. BH tax is collected every 2 years, at 8% below ₹10 lakhs, and our Madhya Pradesh RTO guide goes further.
RTO forms and downloads
Thirteen forms used most at the Rewa RTO
Every form is lodged with the MP-17 office, and anything not listed can be found on the Parivahan Sewa website.
Car insurance in Rewa
Where your car is registered steers its Own Damage premium, through the zone of that office. Rewa is outside the India Motor Tariff’s eight Zone A cities, so MP-17 cars are rated Zone B, a lower Own Damage premium than an identical car would carry in Kolkata, and the Third-Party premium is a national rate.

Zone B in Rewa
Rewa is Zone B for Own Damage, usually below the premium of the same car on Chennai plates

Third-Party, one rate for India
Engine size alone sets the Third-Party premium, so Rewa owners pay the national rate

Mauganj and Satna cars
Every Madhya Pradesh office is Zone B, so neighbouring plates are rated the same way

Car from Uttar Pradesh
Its old UP office decides the rating until the car is registered again under MP-17
How the Rewa RTO and your policy connect
Insure, then register
Proof of valid cover is needed before the RTO will issue an MP-17 registration
Selling up
Within 14 days of the RC moving to the buyer, the policy has to move as well
Fresh MP-17 number
Inform your insurer when an incoming car is re-registered at Rewa, so the policy and RC agree
Insurance for your car and bike
No MP-17 car or bike may be registered or taken on the road without at least Third-Party cover Once the Rewa RTO has your car or bike on its books, the policy should be in your name as well, and the Kiwi Insurance plans are linked below.
