How to read a Rangareddy (TG-07) number plate

How to read a Rangareddy (TG-07) number plate

A Rangareddy plate such as TG 07 AB 1234 opens with TG for Telangana and then 07, the number directories give the Rangareddy offices. After those come AB, the series, and finally the four-digit number 1234.

Number plate TG 07 AB 1234 labelled: TG is the state code for Telangana, 07 is the Rangareddy RTO code as listed in directories, AB is the series and 1234 is the four-digit number

Worth knowing: Plates issued before the 2024 change read TS 07, and news reports say they can stay. A Gachibowli owner who later moves to a Banjara Hills flat keeps the 07 as well, as the code changes only if the car is re-registered outside Telangana or its registration details are changed.

HSRP number plates in Rangareddy

HSRP number plates in Rangareddy

Since 1 April 2019, every new car registered in Rangareddy has reached its owner with a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) put on by the dealer. An older Shamshabad or Hayathnagar car must have one installed.

Plates are not booked at Upparpally, Ibrahimpatnam or Shadnagar. Order it through the portal named on the Telangana transport department website, which shows your car’s date too; the remaining plate rules are on our Telangana RTO guide.

Directories list TG-07, formerly TS-07, for all three Rangareddy offices, though the department’s own directory names the offices without codes. The code most often confused with it is TG-13, as Mehdipatnam, a neighbour of Attapur, is a West Zone area of Hyderabad.

A Rangareddy car is transferred by the office that registered it, not by the buyer’s local office. File Form 29 from the seller and Form 30 from both on Vahan, and pay ₹300 for a car or ₹150 for a motorcycle.

The new owner should then move the insurance policy across within 14 days.

Removing a loan (hypothecation) at Rangareddy RTO

For a car whose loan is closed, Form 35 and the lender’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) take the hypothecation off the RC at no RTO fee; a state service charge may still apply. Our Telangana RTO guide walks through the documents behind each Rangareddy transfer step.

BH series registration in Rangareddy

BH series registration in Rangareddy

If your employer moves you between states, the dealer can apply for a Bharat series (BH) number instead of a Rangareddy one, and later moves need no NOC.

A private employer must have offices in 4 states or union territories or more, and its employee submits Form 60. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.

Our Telangana RTO guide covers who can apply and how the BH tax is charged.
