MH-14 is Pimpri Chinchwad’s own code, issued from an office in Sant Nagar, Moshi, and not from the Pune RTO. Pune city has its separate code, MH-12, so the two are easy to mix up even though they share a district.
An MH 14 AB 1234 plate breaks into four pieces. MH marks a Maharashtra registration, 14 points to the Pimpri Chinchwad office at Moshi, AB is the letter series and 1234 is the four-digit number that identifies the vehicle.

Worth knowing: An MH-14 car sold to a buyer in Pune city still wears MH-14, since the code records where the car was first registered. Moving to another Maharashtra town leaves the code as it is, and it changes only if the car is re-registered outside Maharashtra or its registration details are changed.
From 1 April 2019, a new car registered at Moshi has come with its High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) fitted by the dealer, and the Maharashtra transport department does not ask those owners to reapply.
Worth knowing: Owners of an earlier MH-14 car can book the plate on the portal that the Maharashtra transport department website points to, and see their due date there. There is no fitment charge at a centre, though a home visit costs more. How the plate rule works across the state is explained in our Maharashtra RTO guide.
MH-14, and the Pune district codes people mistake for it
Pimpri Chinchwad has one code, MH-14, and one office. The code most often confused with it is MH-12, which belongs to the Pune RTO, a different office with its own premises at Sangam Bridge and Yerwada.
Baramati (MH-42) is in Pune district as well, but it reports to the Pune RTO, not to Moshi. The department’s organisation chart shows no Deputy RTO and no check post under Pimpri Chinchwad.
The address the department lists, the older one to ignore, and what is known about the office
The Maharashtra transport department lists one Pimpri Chinchwad office, in Sant Nagar at Moshi, next to the Traffic Park. The opening hours at Moshi could not be confirmed from any official source, so it is best to check with the office before you go.
Searches for Pimpri Chinchwad RTO can still turn up an older address in Purna Complex on Chikhali Road, opposite the Telco Gate. That is not the address on the department’s list, so go to Moshi.
Worth knowing: Pimpri Chinchwad is not a sub-office of Pune. Its organisation chart entry lists it as a Regional Transport Office in its own right, with no Deputy RTO and no border check post beneath it.
In numbers: By 31 March 2025 the Moshi office had 27,66,354 vehicles on its books, 5,02,142 of them cars. In 2024-25 alone it registered 1,96,282 new vehicles, 46,744 of which were cars.

The places one directory gives to MH-14, and where MH-12 or MH-42 takes over
Registration follows the address on the Registration Certificate (RC). The department has published no area list for MH-14, so the table below reflects one directory and should be checked with the office before you rely on it.
Worth knowing: Hinjawadi is easy to think of as Pune, but the one directory with an area list places it with Moshi (MH-14), not with Sangam Bridge. Confirm with the office before a new car is registered from there.
Not sure which office registered a car? The finder at the top of the page reads the number and names the office that holds the vehicle’s file.
Changed address within Maharashtra? The MH-14 number stays the same; have the new address entered on the RC, and inform your insurer.
Inside Pune district, Pimpri Chinchwad shares the map with the Pune RTO (MH-12) and the Baramati Deputy RTO (MH-42). Beyond the district line, Thane, Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Solapur and Satara each run their own offices.

Maharashtra’s one-time tax, the same at Moshi as in Pune Registering at Moshi rather than at Sangam Bridge changes nothing on the tax bill. Pimpri Chinchwad cars pay the Maharashtra rate once, at first registration, and the band depends on the price, the fuel and the owner.
A petrol car registered in a person’s name pays 11% up to ₹10 lakhs, 12% up to ₹20 lakhs and 13% beyond
Diesel costs more at each step: 13%, then 14% from ₹10 lakhs and 15% past ₹20 lakhs, for an individual owner
Compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cars pay 8%, 9% or 10% by price
These are the rates for a car owned by an individual. A petrol or diesel car registered to a company pays 20% instead.
For example: A ₹6 lakh petrol car bought by a Pimpri Chinchwad resident falls in the lowest band, so the tax is 11%, or ₹66,000. The state also adds a road safety cess to that tax; it is reported at 2%, and Vahan shows the exact sum.
No tax is due on an electric vehicle (EV) registered between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2030, under the Maharashtra EV policy
In 2025 the state lifted the maximum tax from ₹20 lakhs to ₹30 lakhs, with the change reported from 1 July 2025
An MH-12 and an MH-14 car of the same price and fuel pay exactly the same tax
Vahan shows the final amount for your car, and our Maharashtra RTO guide has every band
An owner registering at Moshi pays the same RTO fees as one at Sangam Bridge, since every amount below is set nationally. Fees are collected on the Vahan portal, and a dealer selling a new car collects them as part of the on-road price.
For example: A new car on a bank loan, registered at MH-14, costs ₹2,300 in RTO fees before any road tax. That is ₹600 to register, ₹200 for the smart card and ₹1,500 for the hypothecation entry.
A Pimpri Chinchwad car that reaches 15 years needs a ₹5,000 renewal, and one past 20 years ₹10,000. Leave it late and ₹500 a month is added for a car, or ₹300 for a motorcycle.
Not covered here are the HSRP, any state service charge and the Maharashtra road tax, each of which is paid separately.
The dealer applies on Vahan, and an MH-14 number follows a Pimpri Chinchwad address
Registering a new car is the dealer’s job on Vahan, and the approving office is the one for the buyer’s address. Someone living in Pimpri Chinchwad who buys from a showroom in Pune city should therefore expect an MH-14 number, not MH-12.
Third-Party cover must exist before the application goes in, and you are free to choose the insurer yourself
With your address proof attached, the application is routed to the Moshi office for an MH-14 address
The road tax and RTO fee are inside the on-road price and listed on the invoice
After approval at Moshi, the car is given its MH-14 registration number
With the High Security Registration Plate fitted by the dealer, Moshi sends out the RC
A Pimpri Chinchwad buyer gets MH-14 even when the car comes from a dealer in another part of the district
Ask the insurer which zone it applies to an MH-14 car before you compare first-year premiums
A new scooter or motorcycle is registered the same way, at the office for the owner’s address
An MH-14 car changes hands at the Moshi office or online on Vahan. The seller completes Form 29, both parties sign Form 30, and Moshi charges ₹300 to transfer a car (₹150 for a motorcycle).
Next comes the policy. Within 14 days of the RC changing names, the new owner must have the insurance moved across.
With the loan cleared, file Form 35 on Vahan together with the bank’s No Objection Certificate (NOC), and the bank’s name comes off the RC free of charge. The full checklist is in our Maharashtra RTO guide.
Pimpri Chinchwad owners can start vehicle work on the Vahan portal and licence work on the Sarathi portal, and the file is sent to Moshi when the RC address is MH-14. Maharashtra runs the learner licence test online with Aadhaar authentication, which saves a trip to the office for that step.
A lost, stolen or damaged MH-14 RC is replaced by applying on Form 26, with the fee shown in the fees table. For the status of any MH registration, try the Kiwi Insurance RC status check.
Sarathi takes licence applications and test bookings, and the test is held in person at the office for your address. Anything else you can do online is covered in our Maharashtra RTO guide.
To check whether an MH-14 vehicle has a challan, search its number on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or in the mParivahan app, where you can also pay it. Each challan states the amount for its offence.
Fines for other offences appear in our Maharashtra RTO guide.
The rules turn on whether the car already has an MH number
Moving from Mumbai, Pune or anywhere else in Maharashtra, keep the MH number and only update the address on the RC. A car from outside the state needs an MH number once it has been kept in Maharashtra for more than 12 months.
The office that issued the old plate gives the No Objection Certificate on Form 28
Once the car has been in Maharashtra for over 12 months, apply at Moshi for an MH number
Maharashtra tax and the road safety cess are due, and Vahan shows how much
With the MH-14 number issued, inform your insurer so the policy and RC agree
If you are leaving Maharashtra with an MH-14 car, the same steps apply in reverse: The Moshi office issues the NOC on Form 28, free of any RTO fee, and the car is then registered in the new state.
Worth knowing: Each form, with the full steps, is in our Maharashtra RTO guide.
If a transfer out of Maharashtra is likely, a Pimpri Chinchwad buyer can ask the dealer for a Bharat series (BH) number in place of MH-14. A later move to Bengaluru or Chennai then needs no NOC and no new registration.
Staff of a private firm with offices in 4 or more states or union territories hand the dealer Form 60 from their employer. The format is YY BH #### XX, where YY is the year of first registration, the four digits are allotted at random, and XX represents the alphabetic series, which can be a single letter or two letters. It is black on a white plate, like any other private car.
The eligibility rules and the 2-year tax are set out in our Maharashtra RTO guide.

Before you compare quotes, ask each insurer whether it rates MH-14 as Zone A or Zone B, as the tariff leaves it open
Zone A applies to a car from the Pune RTO, which the tariff names, while Baramati MH-42 cars are Zone B
The Third-Party premium is notified for all of India, so compare plans on the Own Damage part and covers
See which cashless partner garages are near your home or office in Pimpri Chinchwad before buying
A dealer can only register the car once a valid policy exists. On a sale, the RC is transferred at Moshi first, and the buyer then has 14 days to move the policy. If the number or the address changes, inform your insurer so the details match.
Worth knowing: An MH-14 car keeps the rating of its registering office after the owner moves into Pune city, until it is re-registered elsewhere.
At Moshi, registration needs at least Third-Party cover, the legal minimum for any vehicle on Indian roads With the MH-14 formalities behind you, arrange cover for each vehicle you own. The two cards below open the Kiwi Insurance car plans and bike plans.

Pimpri Chinchwad registers vehicles under MH-14, from its own office at Sant Nagar, Moshi. That is separate from Pune city’s MH-12 and Baramati’s MH-42, although all three are in Pune district.
